Red shells are already stronger than ever in MK7. I'm not sure why we'd want them even stronger.

Spiny shells do help a lot now. They travel on the ground and can hit other people outside of first place. On something like Neo Bowser City it's the most annoying item.

I hate the blue shell, but I don't think it should be retired. I just think it needs to be rebalanced, because while it can definitely help you out sometimes, it can get pretty frustrating when you keep getting hit by multiple blue shells on the same track. One thing I've noticed is that the amount of blue shells you might see in one cup in this game is way more than in any other game.
I don't mind the Tanooki tail that much, but I feel like you never really find yourself actually wanting to get one from an item box, unlike things such as red shells or mushrooms. One thing that bugs me about it though is when you don't need it at all, and you can't get rid of it until after you run through an item block, and by then the guy behind you might have a red shell and you can't protect yourself. Anyway, I don't think it should return because it's mostly just a hassle.
Another item they should retire is the Fire Flower. It's irritating when people spam you with it and you end up losing your place. I also don't really find it useful most of the time, unless I'm in a really tight spot and I can hit a few people with it.
People also keep mentioning the Lucky 7, which I personally find useful. I'm usually pretty good at rationing the items I get from it, and I also haven't really had anyone steal my star or blow up my bomb, so I can't say that that annoys me.
Lastly, I want items like the blooper and the lightning cloud to stay because they keep the game interesting, and the lightning cloud can actually be kind of useful. Weirdly enough, I like getting shrunk by it because it seems like it creates a bigger gap between me and the guy behind me, so I have more time to get away from them, and it also makes them drop whatever deadly item they're carrying. Also, the blooper isn't really that helpful, but I still like using it for some silly reason.

I also agree that the red shell should be able to home backwards. I know that could get annoying really fast, but I've always wanted to do that.

I think the blue shell is just needs to be airborne, and the only time you should get it is when the person who's in first is uncatchable otherwise.

Lightning seems fair, because it affects everybody, giving the person in last a bit of a chance to catch up, but it can get horribly annoying. All I do is save it until im 1st then use it, giving me an advantage over others, so why take it out? You need to know how to use it's full potential to get far with it.

The Big Mushroom is annoying too, becuase you can get hit my a star... Also get a mushroom before u get hit with a blue. That way you can dodge it. I always get a mushroom before going into 1st place. Use tactics, get a car with good acceleration. Something

The re-done retro tracks are great. I'd rather have 8 cups than just 4.
