I am having a problem with this game. When I press the Square button to access my inventory and then Circle to return to the game, it immediately and automatically opens my inventory screen again. I press Circle, it does it again...and again.... It wasn't always doing this; I had no problems until I got to the point where you find the first guy dying and give him some water. After that, this problem started happening. I had to reset my PS2. When I started the game, it was fine until I pressed the Square button again. I thought it was my saved game. So I tried a new game with no memory card in the console unit. Guess what? It still does it (and since this was a New Game, it is doing it in the starting position screen). I tried 2 different controllers and it still happened. I have no other problems with any other games (that I know of).

Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone know if there is some internal storage that all games write to? If so, how do I access it (Keeping in mind that the system configuration is stored on the memory card, and I was still having this problem with no memory card in the console).

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Update: I called Sony. After dicking around for about an hour with "this and that" the operator finally told me that she thinks it's the game. I doubt it. The games worked fine for a while then suddenly crapped out. (The other game that is acting up is Manhunt...no menu error but the camera view stays focused on the main guys front, not over his shoulder like it should).

So they told me to call the makers of the games and get help from them. In other words, I have to just accept it and eat the money I paid for these games. I think I am going to have a friend try them on his system to see what happens.

I think I am going to buy an Xbox and use this piece of crap PS2 for a doorstop. This is the 2nd time I have had a major issue with it...the first being the infamous "Blue Disk error" when it wouldn't read CD-ROMs.

Still, if anyone has any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them.

UPDATE:

Well, I let a friend borrow the games and try them. He reported back that he had no problems. When a third game started acting up (The Getaway, perhaps the most poorly designed game ever), I caved in and bought a new controller (I am kind of a tight-ass with my money...oh well).

It worked and the problems are no more. By some absolutely amazing coincidence both of my original controllers (bought when I bought the PS2) must have failed at the same time. Weird.

Hope this helps if anyone else has these problems. Just try a new controller.
