how to setup a password on my SMC router

I've had my SMC router for about 3 years without a password and my friend told me that I should put a password on it so it runs faster so I asked him how but he doesn't know cause they set it up when he bought his and I've searched a lot to see if anyone knows how but I've come up with nothing.

I know how to login with my using the IP address and everything but I can't figure out how to put one on, and that's my question; how do you put a password on it, do you have to do something on the site or do I have to call Rogers and ask them to put one on?

PS Can you dumb it down for me please, not that good with computers

Through your network connections window (if you are using xp) open up the properties of your wireless connection and under status there should be something about a gateway address. Remember that address (will most likely start with 192.168.0) and type it into your web browser.

That should bring up the router configuration menu. From there just try to find security settings of some sort.
