God this place is dead, isn't it?

I got a laptop (HP G6000) today. I have a wireless router on my PC (Speedtouch - my dad knows about all this, don't ask me) but I cannot get it to work on my laptop. When I open the connections window, it shows the internet connection there, and says it has good strength, but it won't connect. I have no idea why. Originally it was connecting but then disconnecting 5 minutes later, but now it won't connect in the slightest.

Okay, I have already tried changing the channel, which made it not work at all. I changed it back (channel 1 btw) and it still isn't working. I've tried switching off the phones in the house (they are wireless landlines) which also didn't help. I have no idea what to do about it, and any help would be really, really appreciated...

Well if there are security settings enabled on the router then that could be causing the problem. You'll need to configure your wireless adapter to the security settings (WEP, WPA).

No worries, its sorted out now! Ridiculously expensive 18 minute call to my internet service provider did the trick.
