Help with port forwarding???

I'm trying to download some movies for my Ipod using Azureus, but all of my downloads are running slow, and the program shows a yellow face next to all of them. Turns out that I need that face to turn green in order to speed up the downloads.

It seems like I need to do something with port forwarding, but I'm a total noob at all this router/connections stuff. Could someone please give me instructions that pretty much anybody could understand?? Just assume that I know nothing when explaining yourself.

I might be wrong with this port forwarding thing, so feel free to suggest anything else....just try not to include complicated terms.

re: Help with port forwarding???

Depends on what kind of a router you're using. If you're using a Linksys router, you go here and put in whatever your router username and password are (default is "admin" with no password). Might as well try the link with others, as well, not sure about it though.

Regardless of brand there should be a port forwarding screen somewhere on the site (under Applications & Gaming for a Linksys router) and you need to put in 12953, the port Azureus uses. If you need to enter a particular subnet mask, (192.168.1.___) open the command prompt (run "cmd") and enter ipconfig. One of the lines is your subnet mask, take the last three characters of that and put them into the box. Then click enable or whatever you need to do and save the settings.

re: Help with port forwarding???

If you've tried "admin" as your username with a blank password field, then ask whoever set up the router. I don't know what username and password he or she chose.
