re: which TK is worth it?

I'd say Spear and Sword (shortsword) has the best True King Weapon just because it gives you what you need, rather than what you could need.

Shortsword gives Str and Dex - really awesome for damage dealing and since the combination of Twin Blades, Daredevil Stance, Furious Blade and such powerful weapons will surely devastate anything that's weak to Slash and Strike.

Spear gives Str and Vit - Str's not so awesome... but the extra Vit from the weapon's awesome, even at +8, that's a nice bonus to complement the True King Shield.

Axe and Longsword both give Str and Spr (as you probably already know) and of course, Staff just blasts the water with it's stats, lol.


Finally, as you know, Bow's got Str and Agi - which just means you could probably skip a Str build completely and just concentrate on an Agi/Dex/MP build (in whichever order you prefer) since an extra 50 Str on Bow doesn't matter THAT much (that and you're support anyway so you don't need that much Str).


I'd say Staff's got the best one, followed by Shortsword then Spear then Bow. Axe and Longsword are, unfortunately, pretty lame all things considered. There's very little situations where Spr/RES comes in handy and an extra 25/30 or whatever really isn't going to help you out especially since most players of those two classes use extremely heavy builds. It'll be helpful in a handful of quests like Windfrockers II etc. but otherwise, they're only there for that pure attack bonus. (Also, Ark killer effect and critical bonus across all elements)

I agree that they aren't needed, since the current quests can all be handled without the TK weapons, but there's not a huge reason not to get one if you are at that point. Building one stat higher and higher becomes less useful, but having a weapon with really high damage and/or stat bonuses leaves your options open to many other things instead of just trying to pump up one stat.

For example, many mages I see pretty much focus on getting the highest damage they can, and with TK staff you could probably push up to 750MAG or even higher (haven't really worked out the math or anything). But my point is, that even mages with MAG up at 650+ are considered to have really high damage. With a TK weapon, you could potentially get MAG to 650+ without any difficulty at all. And then instead of weaing all gear with +INT, you could substitute something to increase your survivability, like wear Hachiman for AGI, or wear some moderate weight gear to pump up your defense a bit more.

TK can make you really strong at some specific thing, or it can help you to become a really well-rounded player (stat-wise).

More on point, as the others said, play the weapon that you like the most. Choosing something because it is better than something else is purely subjective in my opinion, since all classes are useful in different ways. Even if one is more useful than another, it's not so much better that it would make it necessary to pick over whatever class you think looks the coolest, or is the most fun to you.

never thought about the fact of being able to swap armor due to having the higher stats on weapons.
i always have haichman (sp?) gear in reserve in case im running a melee heavy boss. (im mage/bow currently)
it would be nice to keep my int where its at and add some other needed stats.

i know the go-to answer is 'whatever works for you'. and honestly im very comfortable with mage & bow. but i
never seem to use bow since most of what i can do as bow, i can do better as mage. plus im not a big fan of dual roles. too much equipment to carry. i started the game as ss/swordmage and loved it until i came online and realized its limitations. i thought maybe with the tk i would enjoy that class better. i like the jack of all about it, but figured if i wanted to go support; bow was more my style and if i wanted to go on the offensive; mage would work more for me. axe is too slow for my tastes. spear puts me to sleep. and idk yet about LS....

The TK sword and shield are I think the best combination. The sword because with STR and DEX it boosts the ATK, DMG and accuracy as well as enhancing the critical hit rate. There are also some really good AGI based armors (and STR/AGI) so the DEX boost on the sword is very nice. The shield is awesome, and the stat boosts stack on the DEF/RES stats as well. Plus it's a light shield, so it is penalty free in terms of speed of turn. The only downside is that you don't get specific boosts to sleep, poison, paralysis or silence resistance.

Of course, as a SS user, I'm unlikely to say anything else...

I think the best would be the shield, axe, and possibly the staff

but for those willing to enhance the madoras weapons i'd have to say the gandivam, veda, beat out the tk bow and staff becuase the extra 16 mp they give

And surprisingly, True King Bow is probably easier to get to 20 than Gandivam, lol

But yeah, Spear/Sword + Shield's just the best one to get - since the True King Shield's light, you lose out on some super armour but you don't really need it unless you're tanking a fully physical enemy that knocks you around a lot. Okay, there's no situation that calls for that other than multiple large enemies all stomping/smashing on you at once (Like Enemy Mine 2 duo, lol)

I've read some people saying you get the 'super armor' effect with the TK shield, but I have never noticed it myself. Thanks for confirming what I thought about it, the TK shield doesn't have that super-armor effect. I guess the thing to do would be to carry the Lux shield if you're doing a quest with a nasty physical boss.
