A pure tank should be focusing on DEF,RES,HP,VIT If you can manage to pick up some extra MP,SPR along the way thats just icing on the cake.

One question though is do you gain AC on attacks that miss you? I'm inclined to think that you do, in which case it's not necessary to go smash-mouth with a pair of wyvern and simply take it on the chin. Instead dance like a butterfly and sting like a bee... (points if you understand what I am getting at)

you only gain AC when you get hit.....so if you are rarely getting hit then your AC is gone fast...without AC you cant threaten,inert field,support field,use any of the shields,faultless defense....these are all the skills that make spear a viable member of the team.

as far as tanks go DEF and RES are better for mitigating DMG than AGI.

you can test this in enemy mine....once u grab agro on a few trolls in this quest u can just spam threaten all day and no one will ever draw agro away from you.

tried that and didnt work for me

threaten can draw aggro for a short period of time and sometimes it doesnt draw aggro at all

especially when there is a DPS guy attacking that particular enemy

if there is 1 enemy or boss there no point of using threaten

threaten works when there is multiple enemies appear as a boss

so you draw the rest of the big mobs

while the other teammates focus on 1 guy

That is just plain ignorant.

you made a dps spear but dont know how to tank...i get it now.

spear has a passive ability called Guardian (10sp)which greatly increases the amount of AC you gain from getting hit.


sword tanks can survive with less AC than spears simply because they dont have as many special abilities that use AC while spear has many

I play spear as well, I'm well acquainted with the AC consumption of the support skills. But that doesn't alter the question; Has anyone tested to see whether you gain AC only from attacks on you that land, or if you also gain AC for attacks that you dodge?

you cannot get AC from an attack you dodge....you must take damage.

You know, you *could* simply say "Yes I tested it and I found that you cannot get AC from....", if you have in fact verified what you're saying, otherwise, my question still stands. I'm not trying to be a pain, but I want to know whether anyone has tested it, or if we're assuming, like many assume that the shield prowess skill is only active when you equip a spear and shield. Assumptions can be wrong. I'm simply asking if you tested it, or know of someone that tested it? If not, they your statement matches the accepted wisdom, but doesn't answer the question.

tested verified true...you must get hit to build ac with guardian period end of story.


anyone who has spent more than 5 serious minutes playing a spear could tell you this.

i had over 1700hrs on wkc all as a spear and over 1400hrs in wkc2 80% of which was spent as a spear.


maybe next time i will draw you a map and provide you with GPS coordinates since you seem to need exact wording before anything actually registers.


I find it very hard to believe you have spent more than a passing glance as a spear if you dont already know this.

Spear is not my primary skill, it doesn't get anything like the attention that Sword gets, which is why I was asking. I'm not sure why it's so hard for you to answer a simple question, nor why you feel the need to belittle others.
