Pokemon White Sprite Contest [New Thread in Black 2/White 2 Forum!] - Page 7

I was going to wait for Deoxor, but since it's been six hours since he requested an extension and I've already extended it once...

Judging!

Though technically a bit early, the theme this week was Halloween!
Unfortunately, even though I thought I was midterm-free for the rest of the week, I went to class and completely forgot that I have a paper due tomorrow, so comments will be held off for another day or two. Hopefully I'll get that paper done by tomorrow morning so I'll have the afternoon to add comments.

Near the bottom of her legs, it looks way too tight to be easy to walk around in. Also, the outline between the black and green part of the robes could use some black outline, particularly on the right edge.

[C+] Technically there's not much wrong with this sprite, but you haven't done much other than add Oddish's leaves to the trainer's head. (I think that's a different head too, but my point still stands.) If you're going to want into the B range, you're going to need to add in some extra parts.

[C+] Back in the day when I was just a wee spriter learning to sprite, we had this thing called cluttering. Cluttering is when you have too much detail in too little space. This is cluttered. Instead of having many little cuts, it would improve your sprite to have a few, larger cuts. It may also help to choose a slightly larger Pokemon to work with.

[B-] Definitely the cutest pumpkin monster of the bunch. What got you here is how flat the sprite looks. There's barely any shading on the body, and the head only has shading to define the lower and upper jaw. It could really use some more underneath the jaw to give depth to the pumpkin.

[C] I think what's holding you back right now is the shading. It's too straight for a round object like a pumpkin. Also, there needs to be a defined joint that connects the legs to the body, otherwise it looks like a flat piece of paper coming out of the side in the shape of a leg. While it's not as important, the eyes could be a bit bigger and stand out more.

[B+] Like I said with Shmexie_x_Deoxys, I'm enjoying the changed up color scheme. The biggest issue is that you need more contrast between your shades of purple. Right now it's very soft, and the much starker contrast of the fire sticks out.

Well now that I look at it, it kind of looks like a weasel... Anyway, I love the whispy bit, the orange body... can't really say anything other than excellent job. In case you're curious, the bird and spider would have probably gotten an A/A- or A-/B+ respectively, depending on my mood that day.

New Theme: Make a new Pokemon that changes forms with the weather (like Castform, but it can't be a new Castform form.) At least two sprites must be entered, each representing a different weather condition.

Kind of blows when you get the lowest score... :\ But I didn't like the theme to begin with, not much of a Halloween person. I like the new theme, already have some made but I'm going to wait, maybe something will come to me.

Oh man, I hate it when I get my score down because my sprites look one way and they aren't meant to be like that... The arm is supposed to be extended, with the scythe pressing against the back...
I'm starting to think I'll have to give detailed explanations of what I was aiming for with every sprite...

Note to self:
"Learn to read. When it says back arm, that means the arm furthest from us."
That might help next time...
