Judging Time
Sorry for the delay guys. Throwing birthday parties is a lot of work, and takes some time to put together. Tonight is literally my only free night this week... but I do love being busy.

Ant what a round it was. I am so so so happy to see so many entries! Makes me think of the good ol days. The variety of entries is also magnificent. Without further ado (because I'd rather spend my time on comments than a lengthy interlude) let the judging begin!

You still seem pretty new to scratching to me, or maybe this is a heavily edited fusion using Pokabu? (apoligies if I used the Jap name, I confuse them sometimes). The face does look very pig-like, but the body just seems small in comparison. I'm also going to advise a lot more black outline! If you have too much colour in your outline, the sprite doesn't really look very good. Good sprites are made with a balance of colour and black. Finally, and I know this is a little strange considering the typical Black and White shading (still getting used to it) but the sprite does feel awfully flat to me. By all means it is not a bad sprite, but it just seems like you need a little more scratch practice. Don't get dejected, it really does take a long time to master.

I'll be honest here (when am I not) you are really starting to impress me! I personally love to watch spriters grow and evolve, and I have enjoyed watching you too! This sprite appears to be very well fused, but I do have a few things to mention. First, be careful where you put your brown / dark yellow outline, as it seems out of place in two places (by the right leg, and up by the left arm). Double check for any patches of black spots, possibly where two outlines from your fusion met each other... Finally, take a second look at your mouth, I'm not really a huge fan of the shape, but that last bit is just personal. Well done!

Long time no see 4Ever! Either that, or I've been paying way too little attention to the contests (promise come December I'll be better

). I kind of like the idea where you're coming from on this, however, there needs to be a balance. Chaos for the sake of chaos has a tenancy to look cluttered. Chaotic and Cluttered sprites are in essence, two different things. Chaotic could be something like Tentacruel, with all of its tentacles, looks a bit chaotic, but they don't look cluttered. This looks cluttered. I'm not really digging the color scheme, doesn't really say anything to me. The claws and weapons the beast is holding could use a little more black outline. The tail also needs black outline! In contrast, the right shoulder piece, especially where it connects to the body, has too much black outline.

Brutal honesty is my policy, so believe me in saying that I get a little frustrated when spriters continue to use old sprites when their skills have improved so much since they made the sprite in question. I'm sure this is the case with you too. I'm sure you have learned not to save a sprite in JPEG or JPG format. That file type seems to smear the pixels of your sprite all over the window in which you saved it in, creating a blurry and messy appearance. As we spend so much time trying to make our sprites look clean, it's an option we like to avoid. On the actual sprite itself, I think there is a lot more that could be done. A Re-Type is much more than a recolor, and one or two added pieces. While this does portray the fire type, I must say it looks rather basic.

Some real judging eh? Tourney fast-talk not good enough? (nah, I'm just messing around, its late and I think I've had sugar). This is a pretty good sprite, but I have a few things to say. First of all, I have loved watching you improve so much, I think I still remember when you were new at this. Sorry, I'm just being a little sentimental. My biggest concern is your outlines. Although not a large concern overall, there is a little missing on one of the wisps on the head. I'm also a little worried that the yellow spike closest to the right side of the body should have some black outline too. This is a very good sprite, and served you well in Realms of Black.

I do sincerely apologize for not doing very thorough judgings during the tourney, but juggling everything was rather difficult. I think I remember this sprite, but I also think I remember not liking it too much. There is something, and I can't quite put my finger on it, something about the blue headpiece and the way it is attached that bothers me. I know for a fact that I do not like the shading on the little swirls coming off the headpiece, and you could also lighten up the outline a little on the right swirl. The body looks a lot like Herdier's still, like not much has been changed. I'd love to see you go really in-depth into a fusion. I think you'll be surprised at what you can do.

Okay Ms. Aztecan Bird Goddess, I hope you realize that I am going to murder you in your sleep for not entering this in the tourney! This sprite is absolutely brilliant! I'm sitting here staring at it at ten at night and I honestly cannot see a single flaw at this moment. (Well MAYBE over-shaded a little with the extra dark shade of blue, but its so minor...). Don't hide your sprites from me or I'll hunt you down :3

It is a really good idea to keep practiced in all of the different forms of spriting, so you don't lose any from neglect. The basics on this sprite look really good, you've done a nice job on the outline, and overall your fusing looks pretty good. My only real concern is that this sprite looks so basic to me. It doesn't look like an even fusion, there's way too much Lapras. In my opinion, this is really the hardest part about fusions is learning to be completely balanced, even advanced spriters sometimes struggle with this.

I don't remember if I judged this before or if it was Pheo. Either way, I do remember seeing the original sprite, and I'm glad you provided a reference to the original sprite, as I wouldn't have noticed this changes without it. My only real issue here is that the sprite looks a little bland, the body anyway. I am very impressed with the Amber you've made. My other little comment is "more black outline". Feel like I've said it a thousand times, but it applies here too, although its not too severe. Nice job!

Isn't making sprites during school fun? I would have more, but my friends have managed to guilt me into going into the cafeteria during lunch for a change... ... yeah... I should really stop rambling. I do like this sprite, it kind of gives me this Celebi vibe. Not sure why when I zoom in, but it just does. The nose makes me laugh a little, though at first I was unsure of what it was. Looking closer for a few seconds, I recognize Shellos in this, nice use of it! A little editing in the face to make it more recognizable, and you'd have an awesome Re-Type on your hands!

It's been a while hasn't it? Have you met Jakeh (
gothicunicorn) I think you two would get a long, you Shuckle lovers you. I'm only really looking at the first frame, as I use paint to judge. For ReVamps, I don't usually give extra marks for ReVamps, simply because I know how easy it is to transfer the shading from one frame to another. This is really a nice Re-Vamp. My only real concern is that the yellow portions of this sprite may be a little overshaded. It takes away from a ReVamp when its shading doesn't really match the current gen's shading style.

I remember you!!! You really don't have to be the best spriter to enjoy spriting, that's how I got started in it myself. Nobody starts off as the best (unless you're
Artirtico). To be honest, this really looks like a rather basic sprite to me. Zapdos' wings are fused on a little awkwardly, and don't really add anything to the sprite. The lower body also looks a little awkward with the legs, but that part might just be me. I'd also like to advise against using dither shading (also known as cross-hatching). It's a technique used in spriting heavily in the GBC and GBA era. We don't really use it too much anymore. I'm so glad to see you back, I hope you keep practicing!
quote Shadow Wolf 10

First sprite in a while eh? Looks a lot like one of your other wolf sprites to me (one with a navy and yellow-ish colour scheme I think...). Anyway, I do like this, your scratch for the most part looks nice and fluid. I do have a little problem with the black, its a little hard (at least at the computer I'm on) to distinguish the shades of black from each other and the outline, even when I'm zoomed in. You're also going to need some more black outline on the white areas.

Meowth Cosplay I do believe. It's alright, did you scratch it? To me, this looks like a trainer that would belong more in the GBA era than in today's trainer sprites. Most trainers sprites do not face away from the viewer, and those that do usually turn their heads at least a little bit towards the viewer. This sprite is just looking plain away from the viewer. I also think the yellow in the hair is too bright. It isn't too related to Meowth, and draws the eye. Finally, you do need more black outline!

I very much hope that I can tell that this is a lifeguard, as that is my job :3 (though I have to say I've never seen a lifeguard with their shirt off in all the time I've worked) He's gotta be a lakefront guard, as he's got the board that we use to swim out to rescue people in a lake. They don't have those much in pools. This is a very nice trainer sprite, I just feel the muscles might be a little overshaded, and the head a little small for the muscular neck.
quote anti_righteous
[A]
I feel smart, I could tell this is Yanmega without reading the description, so good job there! Your trainers have a few quirks about them that make me know they were made by you. First the arms are always a little skinny, and usually a little bit short. That's about it for this one, this is a really well designed cosplay!
quote ElectricArcanine

I like this, and you have no idea how happy I am to see that this is a proper ReVamp and not just a ReColor! I do feel like there should be more black outline on the tail. I also feel like some things about the original sprite should be edited a little, as is the case in most revamps. Such things in here are the attachment of the left leg, and the orange spike thing coming out of the right hand. Remember, even if they're official sprites, they're still not perfect

quote Hmszelda
[B-]
I am glad someone told you to enter. I wish that person was me, I'm jealous now :3 To be honest, at first glance I would not have called this a 50-50 fusion, I'd actually have thought of it as a mediocre fire retype and moved on, but that's why we look more times at a sprite than once. I like what you've done with the body on this one, but the placement of the feet do really bother me. If I were you, I'd also edit the mass thing from Roserade's head, it just has a knack of not fusing very well.
