You gonna soft-reset to get the nature you want on your Starter?

Not on my first play through - but that's purely for story, not wifi.

Then again, aside from Serperior, the starters are fairly poor compared to other Pure water and Fire/Fighting types.

Samurott (aka Daikenki) is a rather solid all-rounder with a slight edge in special attack.

Base Stats are pretty good:

HP: 95
Attack: 100
Defense: 85
Sp.Atk: 108
Sp.Def: 70
Speed: 70
Total: 528

IMO it is a natural to run Surf on, in-game.

Throw Ice Beam on (available post E4 so run X-scissor or Blizzard until you get the Ice beam) and fill out the move pool with your choice of the following:

Substitute / Hidden Power / TM12 Taunt / TM86 Grass Knot.

Obviously, if this is the way I'm going then getting a Modest one is preferred. Calm nature being second choice, Timid or Bold being third preference.

I'm trying to decide if its worth it to keep trying for Modest, given my previous experience with ditching Typhlosion for its poor nature in HG. But it can be frustrating. I wanted an Adamant or Jolly Ho-Oh in HG and ended up settling on a Naughty one after about 15 soft-resets. I successfully soft-reset for a Bold Eevee in HG - who is now an awesome L.100 Umbreon.

The key for me is that although it doesn't matter much in-game, I also use my in-game team for Wi-Fi battling, so I like to get the best natures. I take what I get for IVs, however.
