Dexter

I was looking in the index and to my surprise there isn't a Dexter discussion going on.

Dexter The Official Website

Who watches it? I've been keeping track of this show since the very beginning.

re: Dexter

Oh man, just got on here to check who else would be chatting about it. I'm surprised the reaction rate to this awesome new show is so low. Michael C Hall's portrayal of Dexter is spot on, the guy is sneaky, creepy, charming, blunt and despite being effectively a monster, everybody can still to some degree identify with his persona.

Just got done watching episode 11, 'Truth Be Told'. (The tension at the end was immense - you get a real feeling that Dexter's emotions are now really coming to the surface). Things have really been heating up, all to play for in the final episode. What's Rudy's connection to Dex (if any), what really happened in that room? Who'll make it out of this season alive? Whose next to be Dexter-ized?

An intelligent, well scripted and well acted drama doesn't come about all too often. The really squeamish may wish to steer clear though you'll miss out on a right gem here.

re: Dexter

I have to agree with you! I say "Truth Be Told" last night, it was definantly a shocking piece. I knew the guy in prostetics was the Ice Truck Killer the first time you see him working at the hospital. They made that part a little predictable.

re: Dexter

His whole demeanour just screamed 'I'm the psycho' anyway. Great casting. He was perfectly matched as it turns out *SPOILER*:

... Dexter's brother.

Anyway, the showdown went down pretty much as expected though the final scene where Dexter visioned the public as his fans, applauding his murdering of the criminal scum was genius.

It epitomises the show's charm as well as its content and perhaps even hints that Dexter does want to be part of the crowd, to not be a loner anymore. At least he remained true to his stepfather's rules. But that standoff with Doakes, wow.. I can see that developing next season. I just hope it doesn't lead to Doakes' demise, he's a great character.

10/10 for the first season. Over pretty quickly but waddyagonnado? Heard Michael C. Hall's nominated for a golden globe too which he thoroughly deserves.

re: Dexter

Has anyone read the book "Darkly Dreaming Dexter"? Apparently the series is based off of, and for the most part from what I've been hearing, perfects that book. I'm thinking about picking up a copy of the book, just to see the difference (there are some) and to see how much detail there is compared to the series.

re: Dexter

Spoiler:::

quote
He didn't kill his sister because he said "he was fond of her." The only reason he didn't do it was because Deb has always been near and dear to him dispite not knowing about him being a serial killer. Dexter hardly even knew his brother, and he deceived him anyway, forced him to do research and brought back painful memory. It's no surprise he killed him. The only thing I didn't like about the casting AJ, were the EMT's used as extras. In the ending of the last episode, you saw an EMT asking some really bogus, off the wall questions like "are you feeling any headache, dizziness?" I've always been told in EMT school not to shoot off specific questions and only to focus on what is wrong with the patient and in that case she was perfectly fine, he replied with "Well we have to transport you to the hospital - it's standard procedure." What standard procedure? There is no procedure when someone's obviously alert and oreinted x4 and don't want to go to the hospital. I know it's not that big of a deal but it just pisses me off how little research they did on EMT's.

Damn this is a good show. The narrative is so - worth hearing. Who would have thought a show about a crime lab in Miami could be so original.

You catch yourself rooting for Dexter only to realize that you're a terrible person for doing so. And that's awesome. Each episode brings something new, while having a continuous mystery the whole time.

9.6/10 for the first season, hard to imagine how they could have done this better. Maybe I'm just a sucker for an indifferent monologue, or torture scene to cheery music.

Got around to the last episode yesterday and it didn't disappoint. Intense show down.

The bit where he goes to the old house and finds out it's his brother, I was fast forwarding and imagining Dexter being implicated or caught by the cops, and I really didn't want it to happen. It's a testament to the shows script writers and the way Michael C. Hall plays him that he's such a morally ambigious character for us to watch.

He's the villain with ethics . So even though like you I know you shouldn't root for him, I find myself agreeing with the idea behind what he does and I like it. And I'm sure I'm not the only one!

Agreed with everything said here. Dexter is truly something fresh. Hell, I never watch TV but I found myself fighting tooth and nail for the TV once a week so I could watch Dexter.

re: Dexter

Just got done watching the first disk of Dexter on DVD(that's the first 4 episodes) I'm officially a fan of this show. I'm compelled by every little thing in this show. And I probably feel like everyone else. You sit back and root for Dexter. Only to realize you are rooting for a down to earth "PSYCHO." HAHA but still I love it. This is a wonderful show. I can't wait to finish the rest of the first season. And I can only hope season 2 episodes will be download-able on itunes so I can watch the 2nd season without having to wait for its release on DVD.

Infected Mushroom and Tiesto is like comparing cocks and vaginas. Both are awesome, but for two totally different reasons that come to the same conclusion.
