Ruthless and cunning, Congressman Francis Underwood (Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey) and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) stop at nothing to conquer everything. This wicked political drama penetrates the shadowy world of greed, sex, and corruption in modern D.C. Kate Mara (“American Horror Story”) and Corey Stoll (“Midnight in Paris”) costar in the first original series from David Fincher (“The Social Network”) and Beau Willimon (“The Ides of March”).
All thirteen episodes release February 1, 2013 exclusively on Netflix.
Spoiler:Trailer #1
I've been keeping a close eye on this one ever since Netflix outbid HBO/Showtime/AMC two years ago. Now it's old news that Netflix is in the TV game, but this is the first high stakes one they're really putting money into and with this much footage and a release date, we're likely to see it before Arrested Development reboots or their handful of other new projects surface.
Solid trailer. There a zillion political shows out there with cunning leads and fast witted cute reporters, this one gets the prize for having a congressman (house majority whip) bully the president into submission. They've gone ahead and named the current pres. in the show's world the 45th and are probably having a future fictional session of congress as well, all of which sounds better to me than picking and choosing with actual history or taking place in the recent past. I mean shit, it's David Fincher flavored TV with Kevin Spacey seasoning, that's really all you need to know.
Will it work as a model? Maybe. I know none of us watched Lilyhammer and aren't about to any time soon. I think it's cool that they're all going up at once, but will people still flock to something if they can't be introduced to it somewhere else (movie trailers, tv reruns, etc)? They'll be banking on word of mouth and that 26 million subscriber base (and all of their close friends and family members, haha), which has usually been enough to do the trick. Networks and even Hulu make their money off of advertising to all those viewers and taking that money, let's hope they stick to the HBO formula. They claim the fact that they greenlit two seasons allows for some narrative security and I think that'll definitely be on display. Doesn't guarantee any meter of quality, though at this point we should have cause to be optimistic.
I'm a few episodes in and this is quality. Finally, a TV show in Fincher-vision. The episodes all flow together like they weren't even meant to be watched outside of a block, which i think is cool. Spacey is killer. His southern accent isn't as consistent as it's meant to be but he's got such a voice it doesn't matter. And it's good to see Kate Mara from AHS/127 Hours getting good work.
Spoiler:style
Spacey's character talks to and acknowledges the camera, much like Ed Norton does early on in Fight Club when he shows us all of Tyler's side jobs. It's not all the time and by the middle of the season is seamless in the show. Moves things faster, arguably.
also loving the text message pop ups. first sherlock and now this. it looks sleek.
There's a larger discussion to be had about the format and Emmy submissions and all that, but this is day one so all I can say is it's worth checking out.
Holy mother of God, I fully recommend this to everybody out there. I was just told on the weekend that Netflix had their own series that was recently released and as soon as I heard political drama, Kevin Spacey and David Fincher I was hyped and the show has not let up at any single point. I feel very comfortable watching this show yet I never feel like I can turn away from an episode. The only thing I would say is getting me at the moment is the dialogue - sometimes it seems a little...I don't know but not quite right. Not all the time so it's nothing that's should turn you away from the show
Seen this advertised on Netflix. I'm not a big fan of political dramas though so I'm gonna hold out watching the pilot for a bit till I see more feedback about it.

Cheers Toby =) I've read other complaints about the script and writing. It was way easier to watch than The Newsroom/any other recent political drama were tho.
It's already Netflix's most-streamed TV show, which is cool even if we never see the viewership numbers.
Edit: And I did finish watching this a while ago and am on board for whatever's next. I was talking with a friend who theorized:
Spoiler:season two could begin
with Frank sitting in the Vice President's office (or as VP in front of the senate), plotting his next move
and while this spoiler thing is up, RIP character that died in 1x11. a great performance, even for a show as loaded as this one
holy shit what did I just watch! Episodes 11, 12 & 13 were just enthralling. i'm actually lost for words, oh the plot thickens.
Golden Miru warrior, I think that could be a possibility. Perhaps depending on how quick they want to move Frank closer and closer towards the push for his inevitable move for the Presidency.
Spoiler:response
As VP it might allow him greater powers to exercise in helping Claire with her issues too, either they will both be in the shit when season two comes around or they will both be on the way up and out but it seems tough to see how Frank would survive after the media frenzy that would ensue if Zoe et all aren't thwarted in their efforts.
I just finished Chapter 10.... and I *bleep*ing love this show. On occasion Spacey's dialogue and accent seem incredibly corny, but only once in a while. I love how seamlessly the show blends in its poetic elements (the origami, the spider in the glass, to name a few). Very good.
Watched the first episode and I just could'nt get into it at all. I'm not a fan of characters talking to the camera in any show and it just seems out of place in this. I'm not big on political dramas either so that did'nt help.

Has this been advertised on television? I'm curious as to why people haven't jumped on it more; political drama or not, I thought Kevin Spacey would attract a lot more viewers (or maybe it's just this forum and my friends \o/).
but couldn't hold the urge, and decided to finish it.
now i've gotta wait a year for another season. BULLSHIT. how are we going to discuss things, btw? are we just going to put everything in spoiler box? it's my gripe about netflix releasing all episodes at once, tbfh. i wouldn't know the episodes that others are watching, so i guess it's probably best to put everything on spoiler box?
can't wait for other netflix production. this one was pretty well done.
Spoiler:Final Chapter
am i the only one who wanted the journalists dead? lol. i'm really fan of underwood, the way he manipulates other people is just too much
