Not sure about the ending, it's intriguing but I can't help thinking it's going to be lame when they reveal it.

Although Moriarty did die in the original Reichenbach Fall, Moffat and Gattiss has explicitly stated the amount of freedom they have even when basing stories off of the original Conan Doyle stories, which to me hints that they could be the ones to, in effect, resurrect one of the greatest villains in Literary history.

What I loved about this episode was Moriarty's ability to make Sherlock look normal. He made him feel like an idiot my misleading him with things such as the idea he is in possession of a simple line of code that can break in to any secure establishment, the idea of putting the code into Sherlock's mind by tapping it in morse code, the entire roof scene where he reveals that everything up until now has just been to make people doubt Sherlock. It seemed he was having fun more than actually trying to accomplish anything in particular, seeing how far he could push Sherlock. To test the relationship he has with Watson and Hudson, perhaps to test out possible leverage in another scheme he has planning, one on a much larger scale. Now he knows (assuming Morarity isn't dead) that Sherlock would literally be willing to place his life on the line, he can use that to his advantage.

The whole of Series 1 and 2 has been the build up of this character, Moriarty, and it would seem a shame if he were actually dead.

What fell was Sherlock as well as Moriaty wearing the Sherlock mask (mask is the reason the girl was terrified of Sherlock). Sherlock fell into the truck carrying the plastic bags while Moriaty fell to the floor. Molly arranged everything after that to make it seem Sherlock was dead. The fact that the "actor who Sherlock" hired being found head with a bullet in his brain and a gun in his hand on the roof Sherlock jumped from not being mentioned tells me this must be true.

This was my thinking too (as you'll see on the previous page), but I don't want it to be true. otherwise it'll be like the whole identity of River Song thing all over again ;-;

I would like to see Moriarty come back in some form despite his apparent death unless Moffat has something in mind for that.

If we're going by Doyle's original works, Moriarty really isn't one of the greatest villains in literary history.


CBS just commissioned a Sherlock Holmes pilot, also a modern update, but taking place in New York.

I also loved this version of Moriarty, seemed genuinely unhinged.

Thread caption says "Third series confirmed for late 2012 / early 2013". REALLY hoping for 2012 but that's incredibly unlikely. Cumberbatch and Freeman are both shooting major roles for Hollywood.

Just watched this from start to finish (yesterday) without having seen actually any of it before. I was mainly holding out because I'm a fan of Doyle's books and other adaptations like House, and I didn't really want to see the pair Dr Who-ified by Moffat. Despite a few things I'd change here and there and the supreme level of corny in a couple of situations however, I really liked this. Cried my eyes out on the final episode and can't wait to see where that goes. Thought the final episode was probably the worst so far though; the depth of the set-up wasn't nearly intricate enough and required very little development or detecting. Also really don't care for Moriarty to return at all, I enjoyed what I could of what he was but as someone else pointed out he was designed more like a poor man's Joker meets the realm of a Dr Who villain and he was never much of a big deal in the first place. Looking forward to whether they have a good explanation for the jump or it'll just be a complete BS.

In slightly related news I considered myself a convert and tried to watch Jekyll a few hours after. A bit crap if not for Nesbitt.
