Actually I love him. Favourite character since the episode of his flashback, and these days he's managed to be totally bad-ass just by doing nothing. I'm so glad he survives into the flashforwards at least...

No, 8 "survivors" would mean 8 people who were on the flight and were still alive when the plane crashed onto the island. Yet 6 of those made it off the island, so 2 Losties deaths are public knowledge.

Ben cannot be one of the those 8, and neither can Aaron since he hadn't been born yet. Even at the time of rescue he's still a baby so most probably doesn't count in the O6.

Probably not, since if Charles knows all about the island and wants to exploit it etc and went through the trouble of making the fake aeroplane (it probably was him) then he'd rather there by no survivors at all, otherwise the underwater plane being fake will become public knowledge, which he wouldn't want...

That's why Ben said everyone on the island would be killed. Although since 6 of them (at least) made it off then there must have been some sort of deal struck to let them leave and make themselves known to the public...

Jack said it in a flashforward while talking in court. He was under oath and all that but still said that "as I'm sure all you who've read the news will know" 8 people survived the crash.

Weren't there like over 40 initial crash survivors ? Where on Earth did Jack get the 8 from ? Are you sure he meant 8 crash survivors, or just 8 people who got off of the island ? The latter could also include Ben, Juliet, Desmond and the freighter guys. I didn't see the episode yet, so bare with me

6 of them are part of the Oceanic Six, so if that were true, it means there would be 2 others right ? Could work, both Locke and Sawyer have expressed their thoughts about not wanting to leave. And openly mentioning the island could attract people like Widmore, who want the "miracle island" for themselves. I guess we'll just have to wait until there is further notice on the "8", if there's going to be any.

I just read a review on the particular episode on Wikipedia and it says Jack lied in court about flight 815 to plea for Kate. He said it crashed in the water, that there were 8 survivors but two died since, and that Kate was resonsible for their survival. So considering it was just a blatant lie from Jack, it's probably nothing important.
