The great thing that Doom has is the 5 in 1 sound support, the physics engine, the unified light system where we get more textures, polygons, more colors now, and great visual fidelity. The unified light system is great because we can have scriptable walls and breakable boards and the player can’t tell what is going to change and what’s not going to change because it will all look the same and add to the fear factor, scary, very atmospheric. "It's like the original never happened. The player is on the Mars base, and they arrive sometime before the invasion so they can walk around in a non-threatening-type environment. They can sense something's wrong, then "the event" happens, and the pinkydemons attack. There are people that aren't possessed that are working with the player … or they're working against with the player -- there's lots of mystery, there's lots of suspense. As you saw in the video, there's a good amount of scary horror scenes." - Tom Willits Full article here____________________ Gamers.com posted - 5/21/02quote Gamers.com
"The rendering engine is still my primary focus, and it has been a lot more interesting on this project than the last couple ones. At the fundamental level, the basic rendering paradigm hasn't really changed much in the industry since the original Quake-light mapped worlds and shaded characters. I am quite confident that the new Doom paradigm of discrete, projected lights, full-time bump mapping, and global unification of light-surface interaction will become the new standard. Once you experience the consistency of the Doom world, other games start to feel more like puppet shows." - John Carmack Full article here____________________ Gamers.com posted - 5/12/03quote Gamers.com
when it comes to the reckoning of the Xbox's hardware potential. It would be hard to deny such after seeing this demo. The Xbox trailer featured equal or better graphics compared to what we've seen from the PC version recently, with near-perfect modeling and lighting from its grisly monsters and run-down underground environments, and more importantly, it showed far more different areas, creatures, and gameplay scenes than we've spotted in the promotion of the PC version so far.

What I saw makes me believe there is no reason to doubt this. In one situation, the space marine found himself overwhelmed by a single hell infected marine gone badder than bad. DOOM boy was overwhelmed because this single creature from below had a chain gun the size of a Buick and stood about nine feet tall. He "smelled fear." After unsuccessfully spraying bullets around the place, he pursued our hero, who bravely hid behind and a wall and watched his aggressor stupidly stumble by unaware that he was going to get waylaid once he reached the doorway. It's impossible to tell how developed the AI will ultimately be or if can compete with the likes of Halo, but what was there was intriguing, especially for this, a monster type of game.
