re: Help!!! Insane wont open setup on Windows XP!

This is still hands down 1 of the BEST OFFROAD RACING GAMES out there to date!! so it's good to get it running good I Think-
It is your drivers! insane likes the older stuff (it's an older game! 5 years give or take)it has done that to me many times every time I go back to some older drivers that worked good before (back a year or 2 at least) on drivers and that will fix it as far as the letters missing and goofy looking and it fixes the XP thing too if you have the patches installed there are 2 = patch 1 and patch 2 all you need is patch 2 and you have to have patch2 to install custom addons Vehicles n Maps and stuff. Hope that helps you can get alot of custom mods and info at Insane4x4s.com, InsaneHeat.com, Quickiespatch

re: Help!!! Insane wont open setup on Windows XP!

I am here trying to make it work now. I could get it to install and run until I try to start a race and then game.exe crashes. It sucks not being able to play older games. This was and still is a great game.

UPDATE:

I think I figured it out.

I think I found the exact problem, whenever I set an axis to control steering, it causes the game to crash if the "Force Feedback" setting is on. Since my game pad is not a steering wheel, it probably confuses the game when it goes to send force feedback data to the rumble motors in the game pad. Now I got the steering axis to be recognized without crashing I thought it would work, but the steering axis is not full used. The truck starts off with the tires turned left and moving the stick all the way from left to right, only straightens the wheels and I cannot turn right. I wish Invictus would release a patch for this. I am going to try to search the Internet to see if there is a program than can change the axis numbers outputted from the game pad. I found one called DXTweak 2 on this page: http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm.

Here is what I think is happenning in the game:

The game pad axis values for steering is 0-255. The game sees 0-255 as 0-128. So now 64 is half-way between full left and the center. It works fine with the axis on the right analog stick, but it refuses to work well with the left one. My right analog stick controls the acceleration and braking. I tried changing values in the DXTweak 2 program with no luck.

For now, I can set my Rumblepad 2 to "Digital Mode" so that I can use the left analog in digital mode at least..

In order for me to restart the game more than 30 times to figure this out, I had to rename the movies in the "Data\Anims" folder to something else so that the videos would not start up every single time I restarted the game.

Yeehaw! Got it working right. Go to the installed Logitech Gaming Software (aka Logitech Profiler) and set the "Left Stick X-Axis" to "Right Stick X-Axis". Open the Profiler and left-click on "Left Stick X-Axis" and select "Axis Properties". Go to where it says, "Left Stick X-Axis mapped to" and select "Right Stick X-Axis".

Playing The Game

Now that I went through a race in this game, I noticed that the physics rock! I need to fix my steering to handle the vehicles to stop from flipping over. I would love to see an Insane 2 come out!

Is there a mod so that in the cockpit view, the speedometer, tachometer, differential lock, etc. displays as in the chase views? I love cockpit views but without this info, it can be hard to shift gears.
