MM8 Crashes when I try and talk to people in buildings.

Hi. I've been looking around for about 2 days now with help for this problem and so far I have had no luck. About 2 years ago I installed MM8 on my computer. I have xp on it. Everytime I tried to open the game it crashed and I searched for a solution and the one that I came across worked. I had to go into the game registry and turn the 3d sound off. This worked fine. About 3 months ago I had to reformat my computer so I lost everything. I reinstalled MM8 and did the same change that I did last time. At first it worked fine, but when I enter buildings and try and talk to people to get quests and whatnot I get an error and the game closes. The error that I get is "the instruction at "0x2110e917" referenced memory at "0x05696fc8". The memory could not be "read" Click ok to terminate the program."
