error report on my game

I have windows xp
I'm playing the game Might and Magic Vlll the day of the destroyer. Ive got to the point in the game where i have to make all the alliance's. But! when i look at the stats of Odeva the champion the game shuts off and i go back to my screen!!!! I have to load the game again. this does not happen when i look at the stats in the others only ODEVA THE CHAMPIAN. MMMMM LIKE ALL GIRLS SHE'S GIVING ME A PROBLEM HA HA HA, SO ANYONE FOR SOME ADVICE ON HOW I CAN SORT THIS OUT.

I have the desktop problem too.. in Might and Magic 7 you only had to put on software graphic, disable 3d sound, and make some minor edits in Regedit and change compatability mode to like 2000

Everyone else ignored your problem, Pete, but I've had the same issue with Might and Magic 8 for a decade and have it now, nine years after your post. The game crashes any time I try to view the stats of my main character, but there's no problem with any other menu or character. I tried everything to no avail. I even used a trainer to switch my main character's position from 1st to 2nd -- switched him with Frederick Talimere -- and the problem persisted. It's an unpredictable bug that will likely never be fixed. A past saved game from before the bug struck work and new games work and that's it. I've run across this bug twice now on separate installations, years apart, and it seems that it can happen at any time in the game, early on or later in the story. The best protection against it is to save copiously.

Incidentally, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit with the game in 98/ME mode. Also, I ran the unofficial patch from GrayFace (which includes Mok's Patch)

The game runs great in this environment in both software and accelerated 3D modes.

I have the same issue on my last character. I am using the same set up as Devon, unfortunately... all my saves has the Knight with a crazy look on his face like he is frozen. The one save far back I have prior to adding the Knight works but afraid to even continue with this game if its happened already.

Im wondering since it was in the beginning of the game, if I should just start over.

Anyways, if anyone figures this out, please speak up.
