Battle system - Ideas and Discussions

As there is allready sort of a general discussion thread i would like to know what you people would like to see as a battle system. something like chrono cross with different attack percentages (which determine damage) or classic ff , or any others!

What do you like to see

hack and slash may be good for some games, but i dont really see it fit in the final fantasy series, i dont know, its just a personal feeling

hmmm thats actually quite interesting, which ones would you say get boring after a while? if i had to answer id say 5 and 10

Really all of them to me got boring. FF7 was a little more fun because of the music. Good fighting music is a must.

I agree, although i loved the all battle music and all the music in ff8, I liked when you fought Edea, the sorcerasses, and Ultimicia. I also liked the music when you fight ultima weapon, and when the rockets are attacking Balamb Garden and the fmv sequence when you land on the beach on your training mission and other music that I forgot. Musically,this game and Star ocean 2 are tied in my best music in an rpg.

Even though hack and slash is good for an offline rpg, it just wouldn't fit in the ff series...They have to keep their own style. The style they began with. Hack and slash actually does work if it's in the right rpg(the Star ocean series and other enix rpg's) so you could virtually put it in any rpg and make it work but in ff games it wouldn't because we aren't used to it in ff games.

Don't get me and rpglord started on SO2. BTW Video_gamer you need to visit again. You haven't been there in some time.

FF8 had good music but FF7 had more emotion in it. SO2 had good music in the sense that when you got into battle you had a shiver sence of how it would turn out. SO2 IMO had the best battle system of any game mixing Real time and turn based.

The chances of a FF game being like that are slim and none.

What I liked about FF games is it was not simple turn based that eveyone dubbed it as. But an active turn based thus giving it the name ATB which IMO is much more challenging. When FFX went away from that I didn't like it. It made FFX very easy IMO.

Yeah FFX was easy compared to all the others(maybe not FFIX), but I think the battle system will stay the same as FFX probably. But I don't want it too, because the ATB system is (as Steve said....) more challenging, so I hope they bring that system back..
