Starting Witcher 2 - Any min/max tips?

Hi,

I've recently finished Mass Effect 3 and am ready for a new RPG. Witcher 2 seems perfect!
I'm a bit of an OCD min-maxer though and hate it when I miss certain stats/upgrades that cannot be gained later anymore.

So I was wondering: is there a lot of that in the Witcher 2?
Also, do dialogue options give you certain unique things depending on your choice?

I usually end up restarting the game if I realize I made an error so I'm trying to avoid that in advance. Any tips on big do's and don'ts (if they are in the game) would be appreciated!

I'm a massive fan of the Mass Effect trilogy but The Witcher 2's decisions have much more impact on the game than Mass Effect. Click the paragon option all the way through Mass Effect and you'll end up with the best ending, do the same in The Witcher 2 and you may have left your game in a dire state.

It's true that you should play the game how you want to play it as there are many different decisions that influence the progress of the game massively and some others that have less of (but still important) an impact.

Ideally I'd recommend you to wait until the 17th April to play the game when the Xbox 360's version is released - which offers an enhanced edition with hours of extra gameplay that will also be made available to PC players free of charge. But you've probably already started playing...

Stats-wise, I'd work predominantly on your fighting skills. Most comments I've read have said the game doesn't give you enough time to perfect other classes and that if you don't build your fighting skills then you're screwed, especially on harder difficulties.
