Kill Stealing - Is it really that big of a deal?

I'm starting to run into this problem a lot in blind picks, and bot games. People calling Kill Steals all the time even when it's in the midst of a team fight, or when the team is focusing. It's like something is broke in their head and every kill that you lose last hit is automatically a KS.

I think the one that irked me the most is I was playing (On Hit) Kayle, and anyone who knows Kayle knows the E has splash damage. Well I was targeting another champ during a team fight and just by chance my splash damage actually ended up killing a champ someone else was targeting (along with someone else). When my Kayle got the kill, on accident, the whole team began calling me a noob and wouldn't drop it. Keep in mind the Jax who started it was the one robbing me of Kills for most the game, and it was in a beginner bot game.

I mean, there has to be some logic to people's brains here, right? Not only that is every kill you get on a target a KS if someone else targeted them first? Even if they couldn't dive for it past a turret? Couldn't catch up? I've had several instances as Akali where I went to pick up runners. Killing the enemy means more time they don't have to farm, and less gold they can get.

Is it like people forget there is a strategy to making sure Champions die? I know the early game isn't focused on it, but if there is that one last hit, shouldn't someone take it to stop the guy from farming up more gold for those 20+ seconds?

I'm not justifying all forms of KSing of course. There are some that are blatantly intentional, like those range characters that don't do anything a whole fight and just pop in a super to rob a kill from their lane partner. Or those ones who just run in and kill all the champs and run right back off.

But when it comes to helping team mates, ensuring champ kills past turret, and so on.

What's worse is this is a community almost dead on in comparison to the COD community. People just screaming noob slander, and talking shit ninty-percent of the time. They don't play well with others, and they won't listen when someone tries to throw a little direction their way. Hell, I remember that community mindset when I played WoW. Heck if I was playing Battlefields on WoW, or in a match of Gears I wouldn't scream at someone dropping in for a kill if I needed the hand.

To me it's team work, and if there is a blatant act of intercepting my kill then I call it a Kill Steal. Otherwise I can get gold faster just going into a dead lane and farming minions for a minute or two.

Bad enough as Akali I get a lot of kills robbed from me. I've had a number of matches where my Assists are higher than my Kills because someone runs in from somewhere else and takes a killing blow. Especially when I didn't ask for a gank, and it's only one guy.

tl;dr? What are your feelings about Kill Stealing? Is there instances where you don't mind another champ dropping in for the kill? Especially if it ensures they are off the map for those precious seconds? Should it even be considered KSing during a team fight?

If they actually contribute to taking them down, I'm fine with it. Though there is that moment where you nearly get a pentakill and someone else kills the last champ. Can't help but rage there. :/

Kill Stealing, also known as "kill securing", is perfectly acceptable. At the end of the day killing a champion is a team effort and it is the teams best interest if the kill is secured rather than lost being lost because the killing blow wasn't landed. Of course it is more preferable that a carry should get the kill, but all roles need some sort of gold income whether it was an assist or a kill.

Some people may argue that supports that get kills are kill stealer's, but honestly that extra gold can be put to an early oracles meaning less wards for the enemy team and more kills for yours as higher percentage of ganks will result in either pressuring the enemy champions off their tower resulting in loss of their tower, or a kill or two in that particular lane.

I'm quite fond of constantly asserting that the absolute worst thing about LoL is the people that play it.

The LoL community is similar to the COD community in that it attracts a certain type of gamer: people are are attracted to pretty graphics or colors and are determined to kill things as fast and extravagantly as possible.
Namely, twelve year olds, and young teenagers.
And as everybody knows, these people are the worst people to play an online game, as they think the word "*bleep*" is an acceptable word to use in everyday conversation. They're also incredibly hotheaded what with the puberty making their testosterone do crazy things to their temperament.

I want to see Darius and Garen on the same team

Also Fluroclad - I understand it's not limited to just children, but gamer groups are Young Adults and Teenagers. I don't know what the gender demographics look like for LoL either so I can't say much there, but it might be a bit higher than others (speculating/assuming).

The thing is Gamers in competitive games are normally some of the most vocal about their dislike during a match. Playing Fighting games - specifically anime fighters - there is a bit of this elitist attitudes and poor characters (people and their personalities, not the game characters) flying around the place as well. Being a former PVP Discipline Priest in WoW, and playing a number of FPS/TPS games have exposed me to quite a number of the crowd in diverse mediums. I've had a ton of bad experiences that grossly outweigh the good.

Most of these people? Young Adults, and Teenagers. Mostly male. Just because one person doesn't fit into the majority, doesn't mean this majority is a fantasized lot. It just means that is the stereotypical player you will run into nine (maybe a little less if you're lucky) out of ten times may fit into this demographic.

BTW, I don't really constitute an individual under the age of 30 as a mature adult. They are pretty much, essentially, still a young adult by my personal definition. I stress the last part because people often think I'm stating it as a fact...

Kill Stealing is not a thing in League of Legends. It is a team game, not some individual KDR score trap like Call of Duty. Kills are not the point of the game. Turrets are. I rather like how Fluroclad put it, "Kill Securing". That is the perfect term for what is known as "kill stealing" in LoL.

So, a quick refresher on game mechanics:
• Killer gets 100% of the bounty
• 60% of what the killer got is split among every allied champion who assisted the kill.
What does this mean? Well, that kill securing can be used to make you win games. If you're 1v1'ing somebody down, and a teammate hops in and grabs the kill at the very last second, you should thank them. They just put your team ahead more than you already would have been. Why? Well they just generated 60% extra gold for that kill. That's awesome. Solo kills without any assists are worth a good chunk of money yeah, but free cash on top of that? Oh man yes please. On top of that, as displayed in the name (I love you for that Fluro), you just secured that kill. Any minimal chance that champ had to live, gone.

Is there bad times to secure a kill? More or less. In general though it is just supports who should be trying to avoid it, which generally isn't too hard since supports can just buff the carry in lane to get an assist. Some supports, like Lulu and Lux that turn into AP carries by late game, and Leona who turns into a tank, can use the gold more effectively than a straight-support like Soraka. But the AD Carry should be the one to get as much farm as possible bottom lane, both in minion and champion kills. Though even in cases like a classic meta bot lane, the end result of "a kill has been had", is the important part. It's not exactly a big deal if the support gets the finishing blow sometimes.

tl;dr: People who complain about kill stealing are not thinking, they're just whining.
