My Filipino buddy hates RTS', so your point is invalid. Then again, he also used to cut school and doesn't have Super Saiyan hair, so maybe he's the messed up one.

I'll try taking a couple stabs in the dark as to why you had that response from the team

• Your ELO is bad, Panth top is moreso the norm than Jungle or Support, and definitely viable.
• Your ELO is lower end of the mid-tier, therefore you get paired with sheeple who don't know what a meta is anyway.

This is why queuing with friends is always nice. I rarely, rarely solo queue anything anymore, just too much headache with all the pubs.

I'm always a bit nervous when somebody actually picks something against the meta (unlike panth top) in pub games, but not enough to report them for anything unless they're purposefully trying to mess with whoever they get paired up with. Trolling, etc.

The issue is when it gets to late game, having a true support that helps gain kills but doesn't grab attacking items verses two members will likely be down in cs because it had to be split between the two, will be better off because of their items and overall possibilities. A support doesn't need as much gold to consider themselves very useful in the current meta. Honestly, if I were you and knew I didn't want to jungle I would have went someone like Leona, Naut, Blitz, or Nunu over a Panth bot. The first 2 are very good supporting units who can completely change the tide of a game quicker than an AD pantheon can imo. Give Naut a chance to throw a grab, throw his ult into the furthest back person, hit the next person behind the grabbed person with your w, and slow the whole team in under 6 seconds, you'll have done more work for your team than a single stun and cone attack. And you're ult is not something I would consider a viable option because you can botch it easily.

Btw, I don't like Raka either. Just I have a lot of heroes that I can play support and still be just as viable.

And tbh, you could have easily jungled as a pantheon. His jungle is actually very viable (though hard), Your stun and overall damage output can really break the flow of a top or bot lane. Plus a 6 ult on a slow mid because they haven't backed yet, instant kill. Also, a team may lose just for the sole fact that the other team has a better comp than your team does. In which case, panth support bot is supposed to be a very early game chance 20 min surrender.

Dignitas mixed up the meta with a triple support/ap team. Great damage without losing the healing and benefits of having supports.

M5 has done alot of *gamebreaking* team comps, too. The meta is the way it is because, in general, it is the most effective team to have in every stage of the game, and usually wins out versus any other kind of team. While in the end the most important factor of the game is your skill level along with your teams versus the enemy, having an organized compilation helps out. Anything that beats the meta could be considered gamebreaking, but in fact may be even easier to counter with an even more unusual team, or just a different strategy.

I for one love the current Meta and how it is played. There are a few general ways however that it gets countered in everyday games (Kill lanes bot, Twitch Roaming, Pantheon/Talon Middle, etc). If you aren't a fan of the Meta, find ways to beat it, because it's highly unlikely teams will be able to adapt to your playstyle.

All runes help out immediately. However, some runes, as an example, Magic resist, can scale per level. You can buy Magic Resist Glyphs which give you 1.34 magic resist throughout the whole game, or you can by Magic Resist Per Level Glyphs, giving you .15 Magic Resist per level, and 2.7 Magic Resist at level 18.

So depending on the situation, you can get better effects level one, or better effects late game.

Runes give you the edge against players with no runes, yes.

I believe Attack Damage runes are more effective for early game last hitting, especially on turret. Armor Penetration is more effective for late game. Either way, you want to get either AD or Armor Pen Marks and Quintessences, that's where they have the most effect.
