Arsenal sign new intake of youth

Arsenal have announced today that five players have been given youth contracts at Arsenal having performed well in their trials. Arsenal have been known as a foreign club with the lack of English talent that they possess but fans of English football will be glad to know that three of the five youngsters that have signed up are of English nationality with the other two from Scotland and the Ivory Coast. The youngsters were found through Arsenal's excellent scouting program which has formed success for the club before with Cesc Fabregas being an excellent example.

The new Arsenal youngsters are:
        Name: Michael Scott
        DOB: 3rd May 1993
        Nationality: English
        Position: Defender

        Name: Fabrice Akobe
        DOB: 30th October 1992
        Nationality: Ivory Coast
        Position: Midfielder

        Name: Jacob Howell
        DOB: 22nd May 1993
        Nationality: English
        Position: Midfielder

        Name: Tommy Wilson
        DOB: 28th March 1993
        Nationality: English
        Position: Winger

        Name: James Wallace
        DOB: 12th January 1993
        Nationality: Scottish
        Position: Striker
Arsenal have had a good link with players from the Ivory Coast with current player Emmanuel Eboue and former, now Manchester City player, Kolo Toure representing Arsenal and it seems that youngster Fabrice Akobe will be following in their footsteps. Although Arsenal have recently played many games without an Englishman in the first eleven, the current Arsenal youngsters coming through the ranks are representing the under 19s and 21s and there is a lot of promise of Arsenal players representing England in the future. The three new Englishmen Michael Scott, Jacob Howell and Tommy Wilson could prove to be players for the future for England.

We managed to get Arsene Wenger's opinion on his new crop of players and see what he thought of the five sixteen year olds.

"These players have great talent and I can already see that these players certainly have the potential to play a part at this club. It's good to get these players in at such a young age as we can get them playing the style and philosophy that this club favours in our players. I honestly do see a good chance that these five will represent their countries in the future, we certainly have found five people that to like to play football and can play football. We will get them playing for the youth team at first and will see how they progress but there will definitely be a good chance of them featuring in the League Cup team this season but we'll have to see."

The intro was always going to be the hardest thing to do haha but will be accounts of the players themselves as they progress, so there will be some first person stuff along with the reports. Cheers for the comment

Looking good Modiga. One thing is the badge I don't know if it's right, the fact it's cut at the top, it's lovely and transparent but would look nicer if it was fuller. Other than that looks like an interesting concept KIU

"You don't win anything with kids."

(Flashback) 10th June 2009

There was a battle for me, education vs football. I love football so much and want it to be a part of me all my life but I had just finished my GCSE exams and I was confident that I hadn't done too badly in them. See the problem was that my mum wants me to go to college next year but over the summer I was going up to London for a trial program with Arsenal. The trial was going to be one of the most important times of my life, more important than going to college and I wanted to sign for Arsenal, I wanted it so bad. This was my chance to do something big but luckily enough the college said I would have a place if I did not succeed my trial as they find me to be an intelligent individual and think that I could achieve a good education. I don't want to sound too big headed but not many people have the opportunities that I have but I wish I wasn't as clever as I seem to be because then it would be a lot easier to follow my dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Some useful information about me is that I support Man United and Cristiano Ronaldo is my favourite player who I idle to become like, although it does seem to be that he will be leaving in the current window. Although Man United and Arsenal have a rivalry, I don't think it is as vicious as it used to be and I do like the way that Arsenal play so I will of course give my all in the trial as I would love to play for one of the best teams in the world. The football I have played has been for school teams, where I received numerous player awards and top scorer awards, and also for a local youth team. I really did see myself as a Ronaldo type player as I play as a very attacking winger and just love to score goals.

One problem with the trial is that if I get signed on then I would have to live in the London area, away from my girlfriend, Sarah. We've been together for about a month now and she will be off to college while I might be potentially in a different city which would mean that we wouldn't be able to see each other much at all. But no one gets an opportunity like this and she knows this; I have a feeling that a part of her does not want me to do well but I really hope that is not the case.

I am going to show Arsenal that I am the best and that I can be a player for them. This is my chance and nothing will stop me taking it and fulfilling what I want to be.

Ronaldo is the best, I want to be the best!

(Flashback) 14th June 2009

"Hey, crying for mummy again?"

"Shut up!"

"What you gonna do, tell on us?"

"Go away!"

"I heard coach only picks you because he feels sorry for you."

"Please just leave me alone!"

This is my life, alone pretty much. Ever since Dad left me and my Mum it's all gone downhill. I just can't take it, everything is just going from bad to worse and I can't do anything about it. I was just having a kick-about against a wall near the park when they saw me, I wish they hadn't seen, I thought I was hidden well enough. I hate them so much, I hated everything about them. I wouldn't have played in the same football team as them had John, our coach, not persuaded me to stay; he was the only one who believed in me these days. But I feel he believed in me too much, he said I was one of the best players he's ever worked with and it was him who persuaded me to go for it and become a pro. Yes, that's right, I've got a trial with Arsenal Football Club of all teams but I know I'm just gonna let him down, I always seem to let down people in my life.

I haven't told anyone about it, I don't want to. I've had enough of being laughed at, that's all the others would do, laugh at me. And my Mum, I haven't told her. Since Dad's gone she's been a bit lonely and I know telling her and failing would just make her more sad, I can't let that happen. She means a lot to me and I don't ever want to make her feel upset.

They call me 'Poor boy', 'Dumpster kid', even the standard 'Loner' and I just can't take it much longer. I really want to do well in this trial just to shut their faces and I will give it my all, I have to but I just can't see myself being that good enough for Arsenal, I mean Arsenal! They're one of the big four, I don't think I would really fit in with the superstars. Not 'Loner Jacob' from Braintree. I bet the other trialists will just laugh at me. I sense a disaster but I will try, will do everything I can.

I can't take this life much longer!

"You don't win anything with kids."

(Flashback) 15th June 2009

This was my chance, the chance to play for a massive team. A team in the Champions League. I couldn't believe they wanted me to trial, I had always watched this team and could only imagine it to be a dream to one day play for them. Just a kid from a village near Aberdeen and I now have this opportunity, I just can't believe it. To imagine that I could win titles for this team, to try and be a star for them. Yes, that's right, I've got a trial with,

Celtic!

Yup, Scottish giants, Celtic and I just couldn't believe that they wanted me to trial for them. I received the phone call saying that a scout had spotted me playing for my local side and here I am now, stretching getting ready for the start of the trial with my fellow trialists. I tried to be friendly with everyone as it always helped on the field to have a good relationship with everyone. There were about fifteen of us and what the plan was to just have a normal match with some of the current Celtic youth players joining us. As a striker I had to be at the top of my game and I had to get my team a goal, I had to for any hope. It seemed that Tony Mowbray would be joining Celtic any day now but for now we had the youth coaches making the decisions and I had to impress them.

"Okay, everyone listen up. The two teams are as follows; In goal for team one, McKing, Nicholas. In defense..."

The teams were read out and it appeared that I would be playing upfront on my own ahead of a five man midfield. I always preferred to have someone alongside me but being up top on my own gave me the chance to impress as a lone figure. I was going to be myself and play the way I play.

The other team kicked off the game and I immediately sprinted up the pitch to try and hassle the defence and it seemed to work as a long ball was sent towards me and I climbed highest to head it on to one of my fellow midfielders whose shot went over the bar. It was a good start for us.

As the game went we started to dominate possession but I needed to receive the ball more as I didn't want to be isolated out of the game but here seemed to be my chance. The ball broke down the left wing and the winger sprinted down the pitch. I had to keep up with him, I'm not the fastest by I just ran down that pitch. The winger sent the ball into the box and I had to get on the end of it; ten meters away, five meters, bang! I managed to get ahead of the defender and I volleyed the cross into the back of the net.

I had scored and I enjoyed the moment as my teammates came to congratulate me. It looked like it was going to be my day.

I hope to follow in his footsteps

Simply, no. Not in my opinion anyway. It's great, detailed, unique and I'm suprised it doesn't get more comments. Keep it up.

"You don't win anything with kids."

(Flashback) 17th June 2009

"Congratulations, James, you have really impressed us in your trial and would love for you to sign for Celtic."

I couldn't believe it, they actually wanted me. I had the chance of playing for Celtic, playing for a top team in a top league. The team I have admired so much throughout my life. It was just amazing.

"All you have to do is sign here and you will officially be part of the Celtic youth that we have here and really feel that you could get into the main squad in not a long time."

I had the pen ready and I was going to sign the contract, when my phone rang. I was just going to ignore it but then I saw it was my Dad ringing and I thought I better answer.

"'Scuse me a second. Sorry, could be urgent."

I found a quiet corridor and answered the phone.

"Hey Dad, what's up?"

"James, we've just received a phone call from Arsenal, you won't believe this son but they want you to trial for them. Don't ask me how they know about you but they phoned just now."

This was one of the biggest decisions in my life. I was already guaranteed a place at Celtic, my dream would come true. But Arsenal are one of the best teams in the world and their youth system is incredible. I just couldn't make up my mind but I had to make a choice. I had to decide.

I had to follow my heart and that's what I did, I decided that I would trial for Arsenal, this opportunity doesn't happen everyday and I had to take it. My mind was made up and I knew the Celtic staff would be unhappy but they wouldn't be able to change my mind.

This is where I wanted to be
