The only demon that really levels up is your partner Demon. You level it up by fusing it with other demons. Demons other than your partner level up by fusing into different kinds of monsters. If they don't change into a new breed of demon it will just get stronger anyway.

Nope, you are given the same Demon every time. But the depending on which version you have, the partner Demon you are given is different. You also are able to make it evolve into different forms based on your choices.

The difference is your a different kid. The light versions main character is jinn, and he gets this little lion type demon, the dark version is jinns best friend. In dark version, you get to be Akira, and get a little dragon type demon, but he grows into one of the best creatures I've seen. At the atlus web site, it shows all of the demons.

Yes they do gain levels by fusing, but when you look at fusing your Guide, you can't see a level change until you actually fuse it. Even if your demon dosen't level up, it wil get stats from the demon it fused with, normally.
And cute? If a Doom Rox or War Rox bit off your leg, I don't think it would be cute anymore. Hopefully you're talking about the normal, cute Rox.
