Managing Nigeria

I have just accepted the Nigeria job on top of my Newcastle post. I'm in February and we have progressed to the World Cup Finals, however our group looks like this:
Argentina
Mexico
Greece
Nigeria.

Any tactics that will help would be much appreciated.

re: Managing Nigeria

Your strength is in your midfield, so playing with 3 CMs and only one striker (Martins) would be advisable. Also, controlling the game (slow tempo) might overcome your technical weakness, and your midfield should not get bullied off the ball.

With the two Latin countries, control the pace and set tackling to hard, and you should do well. Greece seems the easiest of the group.

re: Managing Nigeria

To be brutally honest, you have a VERY tough group to get through.
BUT, its still very possible to go far with the Nigerian squad.

Use your star players, Mikel, Yakubu and Martins to your advantage.
Play Martins as a lone striker, or with Yakubu, and let him use his pace to tear down defences. Possibly use him as a target man, with the 'run onto ball' option ticked on.

4 defenders is a must, a defensive midfielder is needed also, and dont focus too much on youth, just use the best at your disposal.

I would definetly reccomend a 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3 with two wingers.

Good luck!

re: Managing Nigeria

if i am correct dont u hav a two friendly's free so the first one u should play a weak team such as Iceland or Macedonia and the try and play against a decent team in ur second friendly play teams such as Australia or USA or even Croatia thats my personal view u dont have to do wt i am sayin but when i am normally a national manager thats how i approach major tournaments

Just try play a proper crappy team to get the morale up before the world cup so someone like Antigua is recommended

I find African nations tend to work best with a 4-5-1, holding mid and fast wingers. Then play on the counter and Use Flanks.

Wow, almost exactly a group from the 1996 WC, but Mexico replaces Bulgaria. Good luck!

re: Managing Nigeria

Personally I'm using a 4-3-3, however, its carried on from my demo game so I dont have a left back, Taiwo was quality on the other games and I could do with him, My team from memory is;
Enyeama
Omosuzi Yobo Enakhaire S.Sodje

Mikel Etuhu Olifinjana

Obasi Yakubu Martins
