Tottenham Hotspur Discussion

Here is a thread on Tottenham Hotspur, ask for tactics, advice, what the best starting XI is, who you should buy, sell, basically every and anything you may need to know about Spurs!!!!

Here's a quick mini-guide to the side;

Goalkeepers
Gomes - Your number one, the guy is amazing on FM. Becomes Brazil's Number One. Says it all.
Cudicini - A very reliable back up, you can keep him for 2-3 years, takes wage cuts and performs admirably as No.2.
L.Butcher - Won't cut it. League 2 standard.
Alnwick - Doesn't kick on. Loan to Championship sides and sell when you can.
Jansson - Probably the best young keeper at the club, Swedish U21, I think with the right training, could become a nifty keeper.
Button - Better than Butcher but not gonna make it. Sell again I'm afraid.

Defenders
Hutton - Scottish International, performs well, keep him.
Corluka - Great versatile player, namely a RB, can play CB too and performs consistently well, if not eye-catching.
Walker - Very good prospect, 2nd season in went on loan to Rangers, played every game for them. Great prospect.
Naughton - Very good player, England U21, like Walker. Can play RB or LB and is definitely one for the future.
Smith - Young RB and a good one. Loan him out for experience and reap the rewards. Becomes a good RB.
Woodgate - Great Cb, alongside King you have two dependable Prem centrebacks. Should be your number one.
King - A rock. Doesn't suffer of the real life injuries, so he'll play 38 games for you and is class at the back.
Bassong - I really rate Bassong, his stats are impressive and he is strong at the back, definitely keep, use rotationly and make No.1 when Woodgate and King get old.
Dawson - A solid CB, performs well, not No.1 but great as a back up.
Dervite - A good young CB, won't beocme Prem class, but if trained well and loaned, could get a cool 1 million sale from him.
Archibald-Henville - Just a bit less than Dervite, a solid young CB that could give you a good 800k or so.
Benoit Assou Ekotto - A solid LB, performs well. Be aware there aren't that many good LBs about, so keep until you have a definite good LB avaiable to bring in instead.
Bale - Well as always on FM, Bale is better than he is currently in real life. Bags of ability, will get assists galore on corners and goals on free kicks. A good player and young too. Keep.

Midfielders
Lennon - Best RW, gets assists galore, fast, impressive. Keep him, get him on a long term deal and he'll see you good. England class.
Bentley - So-so. I've used him rotationly, performs okay.
Dos Santos - Like Bale, is class compared to life. Young, exciting, will get bids of upto 20mill for him from the likes of City & Barca. Says it all really, keep him, he scores for fun also on the wing, great prospect.
Huddlestone - The Hudd. Favouritism aside. He is a good player, as a deep lying playmaker, he pings the ball about with ease. Not the quickest, but gets av rating of 7.08 for season. Good squad player in my eyes.
Jenas - Like real life, I find he is either great or non existent. Good squad player, gets into England side, will get goals, if used well can be a good CM.
Palacios - The engine of your side, works hard, wins the ball, can't recommend enough, I think he is a great tackling CM.
O'Hara - Starts on loan at Pompey, you have a nifty player in O'Hara, gets goals, can play LM or CM, won't ever be your main player, but could get you a nice 5 mill.
Modric - Luka is the star of the team. Can play LM, like real life, but put him CM and you'll reap the rewards. Up for world player of the year on mine, 20 odd assists 13 or so goals, he is amazing. Keep at all costs.
Kranjcar - A very good player. Spurs don't have an out and out LW, barring maybe Bale. Kranjcar performs very well there, gets goals, can play play CM. I like him, can get 15 mill if want to sell.
Rose - For a team without a LW, Danny Rose is an England U21, who can become a top LW. Train him, loan him out, and you will have a Prem class LW in my view.
Bostock - Great prospect, give him 2 years on loan and he will be pushing for startng in your CM, thats how good he is at a young age.
Mason - Is actually a nifty player, can play CM, AMC or as a ST. With the right training, has the raw stats to become good.
Taarabt - An exciting player, but tough to adapt. If you can find room for him in your team, I feel he can kick on to be a good AMC. However if you loan him out etc, doesn't seem to kick on. However even then, can get a good 4 mill in sales.
Parrett - A bit like Bostock, very good for his age, train him well and again you'll have a classy CM. keep onto him.
Livermore - Is a strong CM, keep him. He can go on loan to the likes of Newcastle for a year, come back a good CM and you can use him like Palacios to win balls in cent mid.
Townsend - Unfortunately he doesn't take off. I like him in real life, but on the game he is a good quick dribbler, thats about it. Not prem standard.

Strikers
Defoe - Class, will get you 20 goals.
Keane - Great player, not quite as prolific as Defoe for me, but plays a lot better all season round. Gets about 15 goals
Crouch - The best striker in my eyes. He got 25 goals two years running when set as a Target Man 'Support' with delivery to head. Amazing.
Pavlyuchenko - A very good striker, as my number 2 to Crouch, got 16 goals and that is as a rotation. Often gets hat tricks, an exciting player.
Pekhart - For years on FM, Pekhart has good raw stats, and he does again. Send him on loan to a Championship side for 2 years, and you get a good young Striker, worth 4 mill that the likes of Everton wanna buy. Either keep him or make a good 5 mill. Win win.
Obika - This year he has been much improved by SI. Went on loan to palace on my file, got 20 goals and is and England U21 striker. I think he could be the new Defoe.
Hamed - For someone who you don't hear much of from the Spurs youth in real life, he actually develops quite nicely, got 15 goals for P'Boro on mine, and looking to sell for around 800k. Good to develop to sell on. Won't cut it in Prem though.

re: Spurs : Tottenham Hotspur : Team Discussion

Just started as my beloved Tottenham. First thing I did was remove all of my staff barring Suckling, Jennings and Jordan, 3 of the physio's, and I have signed 5 new scouts.

I have just had a bid of £475k accepted for Beckham, and at the moment he is the only transfer target I have chased.

My aim is to finish in a UEFA Cup spot, using that as a platform for future seasons.

Yes I saw that but seeing as all it involved was you correcting the grammar of the thread, I figured starting a new one would be a better option.

Keep me updated as to how Beckham performs for you. I would sign him but going to stick with not signing anyone and trying to just rely on the current squad and youth.

Actually, I may sign Edgar Davids & Ian Walker on free's for nostalgia purposes and try to integrate them into coaches. I played them on trial in my last friendly, won 4-0 and Edgar got an assist!
I've had a lot of bids so far, Barca keep trying for Dos Santos, biggest is about 8 million.
Man Utd bid 18million for Modric, I turned it straight down and they then went for Vucinic.
Man City keep enquiring about Bostock & Parret, but again I want to bring my youth through.

re: Spurs : Tottenham Hotspur : Team Discussion

Nice Hornyhorns, I'm just coming upto December and am 2nd with Spurs. I've seen a lot of people saying the game seems easier, I do seem to be doing remarkably well.
How did Modric do for you up till Jan then? Utd kept bidding for him on mine also.
I'm surprised you don't start Crouch, I have him as target man and play to head, he's got 9 in 12 games so far, been on fire.

Anyway as I said I'm 2nd, haven had a relatively easy run though, only played Arsenal away (1-1), Chelsea away (lost 3-2) and Liverpool home (1-0), Just got United next they've won 14 out of 14, so I'm expecting a loss.
Gomes has been brilliant.
Bale, even though I prefer BAE, is a machine assist wise from LB. 5 in 5.
Beckham has scored 2 and 3 assists in 9 games.
Defoe & Crouch seem the best strikers for me. Pav got a hat-trick last start though. Keane plays well, but not scoring loads.

As for my nostalgic signings....
Ian Walker played 1 got a clean sheet n League Cup
Edgar Davids has played 2 in Cup, got 1 assist.
Henrik Larsson has played 3 with 2 goals.
Ronaldo has played 3 with 3 goals & 1 assist.

re: Spurs : Tottenham Hotspur : Team Discussion

Just nearing the end of my first season with Spurs currently in 6th place and its been full of ups and downs. Started the season ok but took a while to get the first win. Then lost 5 games in a row (can't remember who against) before winning 11 in a row beating teams like Arsenal (3-0 at Emirates!), Chelsea, Everton and Villa. Manged to get up to 3rd but have then been hit and miss since then.

Knocked out of the 2nd round of the League Cup by Ipswich whilst trying to play my young starlets that I had spent my entire transfer budget on (around 8 players for 11 mil) and knocked out of the 5th round of the FA Cup by Stoke after drawing away the first game whilst resting some first teamers and then losing the replay at home with what was by full strength first team.

Not conceding many goals but struggling to convert chances into goals. Always getting the comment that most our shots have been from distance and end up with stats like 13 shots, 3 on target. Becoming quite frustrated. Been with 442 diamond most the time.

Bale and Gomez both unhappy I'm making them stay as they feel they should be at bigger teams, Modric asked to go too but respected my decision. Sold Aaron Lennon in the Jan window for 15mil to Madrid and got in Beckham in the same window who has averaged 6.4 since. Bentley is as good as he has been in real life. Sold Corluka as i'm slightly biased against him due to not rating him and have stuck with Hutton who is ok but will be looking for a replacement. Also looking at getting in a new DMC and some strikers that can hit the target. All 4 are playing pretty badly throughout the season.

Also signed Ronaldo for 2m at the start of the season, he was rubbish too but sold him on for 3m in Jan.

Really hoping I can get back into the Champs League places over the last 8 games.
