I've created a website, that appears exactly how I want it to in Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera. Basically just under half of the internet will be able to view it properly.

Load the website in IE, regardless of compatability view or not, it will *bleep* up the navigation system, and in turn mess up the layout of the main content. IE is a nightmare of a browser to get websites to view correctly.

I've spent a day trying to correct this problem. Before it would mess up how the links appear, but get the layout correct, now it gets the appearence correct, but messes the layout wrong.

How is it that Microsoft can make an internet browser fail so bad, when other people can create them for free, and make it work.

Before I cleaned up the links, the website used non-existant tags to display the links. I created tags called <H7>, <H8> and so on (all the way upto <H12>). I specified what I wanted these tags to look like in my .css file. All non-IE used that and displayed the tags using the .css file as a reference and make it appear as it should. IE didn't.

Microsoft should discontinue internet explorer because it is obvious they have no idea how to create a proper browser. How on earth did they get a dominant market share on that is beyond me

Their monopoly. Including IE in their browser pretty much screams "you can use our software! No need to look for another web browser when you already have one!". So while people can still choose, the inexperienced users won't give a heck about their browser as long as it lets them... Browse. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Microsoft has his monopoly closed in Europe which is why the Windows versions they sell there don't include IE.

In Europe they have an option to install between the top browsers like IE, Firefox, Opera, and Chrome.

Search for "conditional comments" in IE.
