	It can be a good idea, but for most use cases it's just easier to store them on the file system. The only time I've ever stored in images in the DB was with a distributed application where the DBMS was optimised for large blobs and the file system wasn't distributed. If you want to delve deeper, I'd suggest looking at this (at least the abstract and conclusion).

	I found it easier to store an image on the file server and the link to it in the database. Then the link to the members picture was stored in the member table under the image field. Then accessing the database and assigning the link to a variable was my next step. Then displaying it as an image was the last part. 	I agree with Doffy: put the URL in a table row. That way, if the image is ever changed, you won't need to change the database row and the DB will stay smaller.

	If you manipulate large databases it's ok to store files on your database. Also this method is used for rights management to files for web apps, not for normal use. For normal use just keep the path of file in database.
