After a brief stint with some on-foot Adventures, Fox and crew are back to take on a new threat.

Star Fox 2 will leave Star Fox Adventure's Zelda-esque adventuring style and return back to the roots of the series, with much more emphasis on vehicular combat using the landmaster tank and arwing. You will also be able to explore the huge environments and kill enemies on-foot, or even stand on the wing of a fighter and shoot at enemies from it.

You will be able to do all of these things in multiplayer mode too, where you can battle with up to 4 players; or connect two Gamecubes together using LAN technology and play with 8. A co-op mode for two players will also be included. Different-coloured costumes will be avalable for each character.

One of the main thrusts of Nintendo's Tuesday press conference at E3 was to assure the public that the big "N" is still going to remain competitive in today's market by focusing on the games. Obviously, that means relying heavily on their franchise characters that gamers have grown up with and love. Besides the Mario-heavy titles, Zelda, and a five second teaser of Samus Aran, Nintendo also displayed the upcoming Star Fox title, tentatively named Star Fox Armada.



The story begins a few years after the events on Dinosaur Planet. A new threat has arisen in the solar system and the Lylat Central Command has sent in the only people with the ability to stop it, Team Star Fox. Besides classic members like Fox McCloud, Slippy Toad, Peppy Hare, and Falco Lombardi, players will be able to control a couple of new members added to the team.



The single-player missions are unlike any previous Star Fox title. Players will be able to decide whether to proceed on foot, take the enemy out with in their Airwing spaceships, or mount a massive ground assault with Landmaster tanks. Besides the single-player mode, gamers can engage in co-operative missions. The audience will be able to select from two types of co-op play. The first features a split-screen in which each person controls their own vehicle. Alternately, one can select to engage in the "wingman" co-operative style, where one person drives either the Landmaster or Airwing and the other player, the "wingman," controls the vehicle's fire. If playing nice isn't up your alley, up to four gamers can compete in several different deathmatch arenas.



The control scheme of Armada goes against the grain of just about every first or third-person shooter that has come before it, at least while the characters are on land. Instead of controlling player movement, the left control stick actually controls your avatar's aim. The R-button controls a character's acceleration, with players holding down the L-button to perform strafing moves. Familiarity will probably breed comfort after a breaking in period, but initially, the controls just feel awkward.



The show floor demos only displayed the four-player, and two-player split-screen deathmatch modes, so getting a good feel for the visuals is difficult at best. What players could get a feel for is the absolute enormity of the level designs. Running on foot, it could take several minutes to get from one end of the arena to another. The developer has even included a couple of automated vehicles, almost like shuttle buses, to help characters traverse the level. The huge level design did seem to be almost detrimental to the two-player battles because it was hard to actually locate one's target, but in the four-player deathmatch, there was enough action to always be able to blast indiscriminately at one opponent or another.



Without having seen the single-player mode, the public still has a lot of questions about the final release. It will be interesting to see how swapping vehicles on each level shakes out, but from what was witnessed at E3, Star Fox Armada is a title to keep your eye on. Because the project is still in its earliest stages, Nintendo has not yet determined a release date.

I already proved that in the multiplayer you can change the colour of the clothes each caracter is wearing. Unless if that was a different forum.
