If you were dedicated enough to wake up at 5:00 am PDT this morning to sit on Square Enix's eighth official "Letter from the Producer" for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn featuring rockstar producer Naoki Yoshida, you've no doubt marked your calender for the fourth and final beta testing phase of the upcoming MMORPG before its official (re)launch this August 27th.
If not, then get your PC (or PS3) ready for next Friday, August 17th, when the floodgates finally open for everyone to jump in and get a taste of what they could be a part of. That's because beta phase 4 is also the open beta testing period for FFXIV:ARR, and there's going to be lots to check out even if you've been loyally participating in the previous phases.
Unfortunately, this final testing period will only last for three days from August 17th to 19th and there will be a level 20 cap on all (non-Legacy) players, though beta testers who have participated in previous phases get to start a whole one day ahead of everyone else (August 16th). As consolation, the Arcanist and Fisher classes will at last be available to try in P4, as will Coliseum player-versus-player and housing.
Players who have already preordered the title for PC or PS3 will be eligible for "early access" which is now confirmed for August 24th; there will be no downtime between early access and launch. Players outside of Japan will be able to begin redeeming their preorder codes (which they should have received already, or hopefully will be receiving soon) starting August 20th.
In the meantime check our beta phase 3 impressions of FFXIV:ARR to see what the fuss is all about. PC users can still download the official benchmark (including the character creator that will allow you to export your creations into official game client, even during P4) to see if their Bodies are Ready come next week.
Edit: Client download link removed until official international links are actually ready!
