Square officially opened beta registrations for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn that will likely begin mid-February. The official relaunch of the game, according to the tentative roadmap Square published, is still anywhere between 2 and 6 months away, but it's good to see the MMO on schedule for beta testing. Perhaps to pull in a greater number of registrations, A Realm Reborn's full opening cinematic has also been release and oof, it's a good one.
Many will likely recall that a good portion of the opening cinematic has already been released as part of the "end of the world" events. These events occurred prior to Final Fantasy XIV's servers being taken down to be updated to A Realm Reborn's latest version. The content added onto the end of the cinematic reinstill that positive and cheerful attitude the MMO had prior to its unfortunate loss.
Head over to the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn website and register for the beta yourself, if you're interested in seeing what the MMO now offers. "Legacy" players will automatically be included in the latest beta, which I assume are subscribers that Square doesn't want to see lose interest. If you've previously registered for the beta, you should probably reregister -- especially those interested in the PS3 beta.
Check out Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn's opening cinematic and see if it's enough to persuade you to return to the MMO, or check out some of the redone UI, character creation and combat for a deeper look at the game's changes.
