This game is awful. - Page 2

...What? Games aren't movies, I mean other MG games come pretty close since they give you about an hour an a half of cutscenes to every forty minutes or hour of play but I don't think that analogy works. And if you want to stick with that analogy I don't think anyone's paid $60 for a four hour movie but they sure have paid $15 for an hour or so. And there are dvds of shows that cost $20 for just two or three episodes, and they aren't hour long episodes either, they're 23-25 minutes.

Aside from that this game isn't four hours flat with nothing to offer but the one play of the story and has more to do in it than completing the story once. If you factor in multiple difficulties and the VR missions it comes out to much more than four hours.

I still feel saying the game needs to be at least X hours to be worth it seems like an arbitrary complaint.

The final level had such a warped tone it seemed like a DLC chapter, some whimsical non-canon side story. It was something born from tight deadlines and mountains of cocaine. It was exasperatingly stupid disappointment. The rest of the game isn't too bad.

I wanted to buy it, but now I have to think about that. Do you regret buyig it?

Instead of finding Wolf inexplicably severely-damaged by a ridiculous metal gear that is somehow still hiding in a huge void below the military base, the ending should of just been a boss battle with a remotely-controlled Metal Gear EXCELSUS. Remove Senator Armstrong from the game and MGR is ten times better. Raiden gets a huge mech to take down as a final boss and is left with questions of who is behind the scenes. A perfect cliffhanger to investigate if they should pursue a sequel. Plenty of time to write something worthwhile.

Excelsus does come out of left field but I think Armstrong suits the rest of the story better what with the majority of his minions being all social darwinists and him to an extreme even they don't really live up to.

People who look into it more than me suggest that he is the core philosophical debate as a boss fight for MGR while Excelsus was just his outer shell of nonsense about bringing back the war economy to bring strength to 'MERICUH. However once that shell is gone you have the senator himself, someone who is all about using your strength to mold the world as you see fit, and he does have the power to back it up.

From a development standpoint Excelsus is a weak final boss, especially compared to Sam who was fought not too long ago, they also had no real idea as to whether or not the game would catch on so they had to have made it a self contained story. That aside, Raiden's wandering the earth fighting evils leaves an opening for a sequel anyway. Meanwhile a cliffhanger, lack of a strong final boss and as noted by a few posts before, a lot of people already feel this game is pretty short, if you took that combined it with a "buy the next game" ending and finishing with Excelsus, they'd likely be downright pissed.



He's also the source of some of the most ridiculous and quotable lines from the game.



Oh and Wolf wasn't hurt by Excelsus, he would have trashed that pile of metal, he was beaten by Armstrong.
