I'm pre-National Dex, and I'm just a casual player. I don't really wanna preen anything till it's perfect, I just want an electric type c= -------------------

	Mareep is the first you come across in the game pre-National Dex. It's located in the Route just south of Violet City(Route 32 I think?) Jolteon is really the only other notable Electric type you get pre-naitonal dex. Evolve it from the Eevee you get from Bill in Goldenrod City. 	According to the official Nintendo guidebook the two best electric types in the entire national pokedex are Ampharos ( evolves from mareep and flaffy), and Electrivire (evolves from electabuzz). So get mareep unless you want to wait unil route 10 Edit: Jan 11, 11

	The problem with Ampharos, though, is that its movepool isn't that great, and that might be a little problematic since you said you're a casual player, so I think you might be better off with finding a Chinchou... -------------------

	Trust me, Ampharos is fine for in-game purposes. You might want to reteach it Fire Punch, but as long as it has Discharge and Signal Beam to go along with Fire Punch, it's fine. ------------------- MixedMence Clan Diabolique Gharials EoE

	Not really a good electric type, but pikachu is a nice pokemon to have in game for casual players (like you and me). 	Remember it's pre National Dex. I think the best choice is either Jolteon, Ampharos, or Chinchou, as mentioned in previous posts.
