EV/IV question

Its 10 of each vitamin. ( so 10 PP up ). But thats only on the stat you want to put it on. Say you wanted to train HP and speed. Then you would use the vitamins for HP and speed ( 10 of each ). Then you have to battle pokemon to get the remaining EV's. ( use pokerus and a power item )

edit - your way would work ( as in it would have all its EV's ). But it would be weak. You should put your EV's over 2/3 stats duppending on the pokemon and nature. Most people EV train their pokemon over two stats. EG. speed and spA or HP and defence

each vitamin gives 10 evs for each one
you can only give a pokemon max of 10 or the first 100 evs of that stat
each stat maxs out at 255 evs but only the first 252 do anything
the total number of evs a pokemon can have is 510
you can 'max' out two stat and a little bit in a last stat

I have an additional question and I want to bump this thread.

I did some research and of the non-legendary/breed-able Pokémon I found that following highest base stats for the following species :
HP Blissey 255
Attack Rampardos 165
Defense Shuckle 230
Special Attack Alakazam and Porygon-Z 135
Shuckle 230
Speed Ninjask 160

Yes, I realize Rampardos is surpassed by Marowak and Medicham in certain situations but ultimately what I want to do is pass down those stats via breeding. If I make those Pokémon listed above with maxed EV's all I do is give them the corresponding power items and those stats will be passed down to the egg, correct?

Those are base stats, the items only pass down IVs.
Base stats are the same for all of a species. All Blissey's will have 255 base HP stat no matter anything else, solely because it is a Blissey. These are the stats that say Blissey is stronger than Chansey, and Arceus is stronger than Magicarp. Nothing you can do (except maybe hacking) could put that Blissey's HP Base Stat on a Shuckle to go with his 230 Def and SpD (Though wouldn't we all like to be able to do that?)
IVs are different for each specific mon. One Blissey may have 31 HP IVs, another may only have 15. These are what says that although Blissey's base stats are the same, two Blissey's may have slightly different HP. At low levels its harder to tell the difference, but as it gains levels the IVs become more obvious. These are what you want to pass down

Ok, and I think this is the last question. Is there a more effective way to check my IV's other than checking them at level 5? Is there a way to check it accurately at any level?
