Probally yes it will be replacing contest but they might have them in kanto but we just have to wait and see.

I'm glad Pokethlon is replacing contests, to be honest. I never liked the Contests and never saw much of a point to them. But I like mini-games, so it's a nice trade IMO.

It is Sunday in Japan right now and Pokemon Sunday is currently airing a HeartGold and SoulSilver demonstration with Junichi Masuda, the director of the Pokemon games. Heerosferret is translating the broadcast below and new information will be added as the show airs. There is now an option to make the Running Shoes permanent. As in, you do not have to hit B to run faster - your character will just walk faster by default.
Your Starter Pokemon begins to follow you the instant Professor Elm gives it to you.
The staff strongly suggested that some of the Pikachu on the PokeWalker's Yellow Course know Fly... not that there was any doubt about that. They showed the months-old promotional artwork of Pikachu on the course, pointing out that one of them in the background is flying with balloons. They blatantly stated that this was a hint as to what the special move would be.
A new Pokethlon event is "Steal Flag," which is essentially capture-the-flag. Your Pokemon basically gather up flags and bring them back to a goal. This event deals with the speed and technique stats.
Another new Pokethlon event is "Catch Saucer," where you control three Pokemon together and must capture as many flying saucer discs as possible. It deals with the jump and power stats.

I don't think they'd remove the bug-catching contest. It's not like you get Pokémon from the Pokéthlon, so there's no way it'd replace the bug-catching contest.

Like I said, I don't check Serebii or Smogon or whatever you go to daily! I was just answering what Origin said using my own personal knowledge.

I don't go on to serebii or smogon much anymore since serebii banned me in july since i disagreed with him and corrected him on a few things and he banned for being 'hostile'.

Best part of the Pokemon Sunday clips are the voices in the background, lol.

Loved the Bug Catching Contest too, I remember trying to catch a Scyther or Pinsir to win, but I always ended up with a Butterfree or a Beedrill.

I don't use the running shoes that much once you get the bike, but it still is nice to have the feature implemented. Can you still run around in houses and other buildings? Because in D/P/Pt it was so much easier to beat certain areas faster since you could run in the buildings, (like the Galactic Warehouse).
