Wow, I'm Terrible |
|
Okay, i used to play Marvel Vs Capcom in the arcade as a kid but was never that good. But now I am still having trouble. I am pretty good at games like Soul Calibur, Street Fighter, King of Fighters, and Dead or Alive. But i just cannot seem to get any better at this game.
I have spent a lot of time in the training mode but just seem to get worse when i play in arcade mode on easy. I know there is no simple answer to this question but does any one know of a way i can get better? Or maybe just some advice. I even tried using characters that are high tier such as Storm and Magneto but i do worse with them than when i use the guys I like such as Gambit and Ken. I would not ask for help unless I really needed it. Thank you to all who can help! ------------------- ![]()

Practice makes perfect. I struggled for awhile with this game's bizzare difficulty in arcade mode, and I was finally able to nab some of the team based achievements. All I can say is, find a good team, and stick with it. Or be crazy like me and use more than one team.

Yeah, get used to one character, then move on until you have a three-person team. It's rather difficult to really excel in this game at the beginning, but just play as your favorites and you'll learn along the way. What helps is getting good competition. If you have friends that are decent at this game, play them...even if it means getting humiliated. I used to be horrid at Capcom vs SNK 2, but through my friends I've up'ed my game, and am now at their level.
But yeah, focus on the characters one at a time. -------------------

Picking higher tier characters (namely Magneto and Storm) won't automatically help improve your game unless you know how to play as them properly. Here's some general advice based on experience:
Switch Characters Frequently- Don't keep using one character for too long, especially if they're eating up damage. I switch them out once they lose a third of their meter. Remember, if time runs out, the winner is selected based on the addition of the health gauges of all their characters. Don't Stockpile The Super Bars- I used to stockpile the super bars till they were maxed out and used them right at the end. Not the best idea since you can use the gauges during the fight and recover them by the end due to the quick-paced nature of the game. So don't keep it as a last resort thing, although it does help a ton if you can pull it off properly right before time runs out as it can turn the tide around. Combos- You don't have to memorize specific character combos from FAQs but knowing the general principles helps a ton. Especially during the final few fights in the arcade mode when the computer starts blocking like no tomorrow. Basically, the combos are supposed to help you lead in to super combos and team super combos so that you don't end up wasting your gauges. Learn the characters- The general combos are similar for most characters but it might take a little bit longer to get used to each character. Training mode is a good bet if you have absolutely no prior experience with the character; however, I'd advise you to test it out in arcade mode. While it might be frustrating at first, you'll gain some actual fight experience with the character. I just got done with Vampire Saviors achievement (Darkstalkers characters) using Morrigan, B.B. Hood, and Felicia. It took me 4-5 attempts because I was horrible with Felicia at first. With each run through I got better and managed to get the achievement. ------------------- sexxxin ur bass

After SFIV, Marvel doesn't seem too hard to me.
Getting used to the tag feel with conserving was a bit troublesome at first, now I dominate my friends and life is good. ------------------- ![]()

Pick Tron Bonne w/ projectile assist and spam it with any low tier character.

This may seem like simple advice to some, but I greatly appreciate everything you have all told me. I have improved a bit and finally was able to beat arcade mode. I did spam Sentinel's laser beams but i just wanted to be able to say that i got through it. Using guys I like such as Gambit i feel with this advice i have been given i can greatly improve with practice.
Once again, thank you for your help. ------------------- ![]()

HOLY COW!! I mean this game is NUTS! I mean I have barely played it, I am still pretty good thanks to the many hours of Street Fighter I played but this is insane.
I was in like the 3rd or 4th round and I fought Sentinel, and two others I can't even remember maybe Venom & War Machine.... I easily beat Sentinel and then Venom and War machine spammed me with so many hypers and projective attacks and all kinds of crap raining down on me like nobody's business I don't know what the hell was going on. Hey there are some pretty cool new "smileys" Maybe we should just go ahead and make some, quarter circle forward etc smileys. ------------------- "Pain is candy for the focused mind."--Bobby Hobbes "Murder is a crime... unless your a corporation."--Me

You see, that's one thing that annoys me about this game. The AI is too hard, even on the easiest difficulty setting. It shouldn't be like that. It should only be hard on the harder settings! It's ridiculous how much the later opponents block so much.

Really? Haha. I didn't even notice that, since I've always played on max difficulty. I should try it out ey.

There really seems to be a large jump in difficulty on the arcade's easy mode after the first few fights. Venom especially always seems to spam moves. And then the endless blocking is always annoying. I haven't even bothered to try anything but easy mode yet and I have loggen in quite a bit of time on this game.

quote Hydra Wow, I can't even begin to think how hard the AI would be on max difficulty, considering how hard they are on the later matches in the easy difficulty. That is, unless there isn't a very big jump in difficulty. -------------------

That's how most fighters are, Kokoro. The first round or two are always easy, next set would be moderate, and next would be rather challenging. It's like a set 'learning curve' that many fighting games use.
Yeah, I don't play on Easy, but I heard it's been rather tough on the casuals. -------------------

I don't think it's a learning curve installation with this game, especially since it's been in the arcades. If an arcade game, even one as good as this, isn't easily acceptable to a kid who just tossed in his fifty cents, it's not going to do well. I myself know to counter high blocking with sweeps, and low blocking with overheads and cross ups, but sometimes you have to face the fact that the computer will often change stance to block your counters too. You can turtle to take advantage of their mistakes but, that kind of ruins the spirit of such a fast paced, action oriented game, don't you think?
