I'm trying to build an army, but everytime I want to recruit a platoon, it tells me I do not have enough men. I don't know why that is because I have plenty of men, and of course the population is growing all the time. Some help on this would be appreciated, you can email me if you want.

maybe you dont have enough ore because of the armour to build,try building a smelter make some refiners get lots of ore.if that dont work buy the best 100 soilders/archers from the 3rd land and just keep em as army men.

the amount of men you create depends on the amount of free men i don'tbother making disciples because its boring unless there is a problem i have ceated 401 men in one platoon because if the men are disciiples they can't become soldiers

Well it possible to "fire" the disciples in order to free up some the men? I was trying to exponentially increase my population by making most of the men breeders, yet see very few adult males, and plenty of adult women as a reult.

You can fire disciples, pick up a disciple and shake your hand from side to side, the disciple will drop to the ground safely with no "job"

Just don't press the mouse button or the termination will be more severe than you expected.
