Alright so I've played the crap out of fallout 3 and new vegas and I have come to a conclusion. Fallout 3 is superior in almost every way. The new guns are pretty cool, but there is no balance at all with them if you mod your 10mm pistol all the way it might be great for a alittle bit, but once the enemies get actual armor its completely useless unless your sneak killing fiends. Once you get to gun runners its basically game over from the stand point of combat, just get the anti material rifle or brush gun and everything dies in one hit for the most part. In three you could get pretty much any gun and comfortably play through the entire game with it. Going off of the guns there really isn't that much fighting that goes on in NV. Vault 3 is nice and so are the camps (assuming you don't like NCR other wise all you have is a couple outposts and The Fort) but walking around the wasteland with your hoping for some crazy terminator action leaves you pretty empty because you might just find some bugs or 2 or 3 fiends hanging out. I was playing just the other day and my brother was watching for awhile and all he had to say was this is boring nothing exciting is happening. In 3 there were a multitude of places you could go crazy on and you would feel pretty satisfied. Exploring is also very disappointing in NV. That was probably the first thing I realized while playing. At first it was pretty good, Goodsprings had some cool stuff to steal and the school was actually worth checking out. Primm was also pretty fun there was even a unique weapon. But it goes down hill pretty quickly after that. One thing I absolutely hated was how it seemed like every freaking building was boarded up. I remember going to the airport (not the boomer one) and thinking holy crap this is gonna be awesome I bet there this is a huge encampment or something but there was almost nothing, there was a couple boxes with some caps and stuff but that was it, you couldn't even go inside the awesome giant building you got all excited about during your walk to BFE. Its like that a alot, occasionally there will be a skill book, but that's about it there are no crazy stories or fun stuff in a little wooden crate on a shelf that you have to dump on a floor. There are a couple cool spots don't get me wrong but you could walk around for a long time and not find anything except scrap metal or a bunch of objects that serve 0 purpose in the game. (at least in 3 you could use them as ammo for the rock it launcher!!). Granted a lot of the locations are associated with a side quest of some sort, but that means you don't need to explore them because you'll just find them in the quest!. Fallout three had different skill books, and there were so many that you could pretty much expect every building to have one, even the houses that were torn apart by the war were worth checking. NV lacks the feeling of curiosity and discovery of little cool stories that 3 had. The raiders were really awesome too and they added an element of complete barbarism because all of their buildings and camps just had f'd up stuff and blood all over them. Vault 3 is probably the cleanest vault in the game (21 doesn't count lol). The sound track for NV is super lame after a couple hours, I feel like i'm hearing the same few songs over and over while 3 had many songs and three dog was actually fun to listen too (for a little awhile). The plot. the center piece of the game, I've heard a lot about how NV is so much more indepth and open, but when you think about it, its really not. each faction has a couple unique quests, but everytime you just go to a bunch of places do a quest or kill them and that its for awhile. and the ending is pretty much the same thing everytime just as before except for the story you get at the end. There is no suspense as to what is going to happen. 3 was linear, but isn't that what the main quest is supposed to be? It has its unique moments that open playing doesn't, like when you go to tranquility lane or getting attacked by the enclave. A lot of the side quests are complete B.S, some are really worth it and those are all pretty much being done to get in good favor of a faction. The other ones are just annoying. I did one last night called The Whitewash and all I did was literally talk to 5 people by fast traveling and walking. That's basically what most of them are, the strategy guide has a whole section of the many many side quests, but the section is rather thin IMO. I also get the feeling that NV pushes you in the good karma NCR direction, there are a ton of NCR related quests, most of them are getting supplies for people or diplomatic. Nelson is fun though and so is that one rescue mission in the cave! I really like to kill people in the fallout games, but if you just go in guns ablazing you get a stream of failed quests, or you fail the quest you are one and everyone hates you, which is fun from the being hated and fighting perspective, but not the I have no quests to do because this faction hates me now perspective. Fallout 3 had a fewer side quests, but there were more fun I think and if I completely butchered everyone it wouldn't really change the story you were going on, it was just an alternative solution. The capital wasteland was much more wastlandy too. Considering the size of what the city looks like on the map there really isn't that much going on. There are a couple buildings (that you cant go in!), That huge farm which takes up so much space and serves practically no function, The NRC base which is way to big and spacey, and crimson caravan. The DC ruins were huge and there was tons of things to do in them. I actually missed the metrostations, while they were hard to navigate and kinda annoying at least they stimulated my brain to get from point a-b rather than just walking down the street were the isn't much exploring to be done. Everything is too happy and bright, I liked the dark greenish misty appearance the capital wasteland had attimes it made it more dramatic and wild. My final NV con is the lack of make able weapons. I really did like New Vegas though, I really liked planning out my characters and stuff that was fun, the character development is much better for NPCs, there are more speech checks which is cool too. I also liked the journey to get to New vegas, I like how the game took you on a long trail around the whole desert, if could have been longer, by meeting more factions along the way, but it was neat. There are alot of good side quests too and hardcore mode is possibly the greatest thing in the game because it makes the game so much harder.it is a fun game I play it all the time still. But Fallout 3 just better and a lot more fun and satisfying. Plus the MIRV quest in 3 is super awesome

I do miss going to all those power stations though, they were cool.
