There is no free roam whatsoever, its completely on rails so to speak. But yeah, I did say it was very linear.

And honestly, if I were you i'd start again but on 'normal' difficulty. It only gets harder and harder, and if you're struggling now it'll only get worse. I think its best to play through on 'normal' then you can completely master the controls, tactics and know what to expect and as a result, be far better prepared for a harder playthrough.

Hard and above is brutal; this game doesn't *bleep* around. Starting on normal with "Soft lock" aiming assist is the best way to get used to the game, in my opinion. This game is incredibly fast and the AI goes hard, so things get really intense as I'm sure you've noticed.

You should all play Max Payne 1 on the hardest difficulty, you won't know what "difficult" means until then.

It's worth it for sure IMO.
I currently don't have a gold membership for xbox live and even if I did I most likely wouldn't even play MP(often or at all).I'm on my 3rd play-through of the game and it seems to get better to me the more I play it.I know what to expect a bit more often(when enemies pop out,etc)and that alone gives it a boost in the replay value factor.The bullet time is such a fun feature and you'll find that pulling off headshots is a cinch.I like using machine guns(using one bullet per headshot and then unloading a bunch of bullets outside of bullet time on enemy chargers,etc) In short the gameplay stays fresh throughout the game and you'll discover your own way of utilizing the available tools.I'm more of a co-op kinda guy when it comes to online gaming(and I seldom play online) so I really pretty much bought it for the single player mode. It's a great game! As far as the story itself...I seem too interested in the gameplay/gorgeous graphics to pay enough attention to the details and stuff but that adds to the replay too.I notice things that I missed from prior play-throughs.The main idea behind the story is pretty solid though. Rockstar made a very good game.

I got Max Payne 3 today and it's good, it's nothing amazing, but it's good. The physics are good, the graphics are nice but there's something missing and I don't know what

I'm only just starting chapter 2 so I don't know whether it'll pick up pace as I reach the later levels, but I can see myself getting bored if it doesn't. One thing I don't like about it is the difficulty. I'm playing on medium and it's really challenging. I've dies about 20 times so far


My advice: wait for the price to drop.

^ Finished it over the weekend. I really wanted to hate the game for being so not Max Payne, but what made it work as well as a wobbly drunk walks down a street is the script. Not a particularly awesome script, but the fact that Max and his VO actor have so many lines his presence is kept up through all the out of place "this should really just be Bruce Willis doing this" shennanigans. By the time you get to the end you literally believe Max Payne went through this very weird offshoot adventure and can still continue on living, having many more. It's fish-out-of-water Max and it works, oddly enough. The Red Dead composer does enough through most of the game to set the tone for this game, up until the last few missions where you get more odd Red Dead ambience and odd sounds playing instead of the usual war drums. Then there's the vocal track in the airport that was a bit too forced, imo, like they were saying "YEAH, WHAT MAKES A SCENE SUPER MEGA AWESOME IS A VOCAL TRACK, HURRR", when through the entire game I was waiting for Max's theme song to kick in, even if it had to be a wardrums version. Never happened. Am dissapoint in that. Otherwise, liked it. The BBB references were kinda lame and would have been better had Max just picked up a newspaper with the funnies on it. Instead they hammed in another GTA idea into a non GTA game, same as they did with Red Dead. :\

Hated the default controls though. Had to change L2/R2 functions with L1/R1, and have to completely max out aim speed and aim acceleration just to get it to a point where their stupid Euphoria 'permanently drunken' movement controls stopped interfering with my aiming.
