Run Like Hell 2 |
|
Don't know if anyone is still reading this, but I just wanted to say thanks to those who enjoyed the game. My name is Brian Freyermuth, and I was the lead designer on this game for almost 5 years.
Before you go bagging on the reviewers, there were some reviews that even I agreed with. Do I think they were a little harsh? Perhaps, but RLH was one of those projects that was doomed from the start. During its five year run, we went through 2 executive producers, 3 producers, 3 Lead Programmers, and 2 Lead Artists. And each one came in with their own view of what the game should be. The worst happened when the game, 2 years into it, was changed from upper management to be an action game. Suddenly the team was stuck with the problem of suddenly being told that instead one terrifying badass Cutter, the engine needed to support 5. Instead of 2 Scouts that ran along the walls and ceiling and were tough, we needed 10 weak ass scouts to use as "fodder". And yes, I'll admit that part of the problem was that I resisted this change. RLH was coming along as a great survival horror game, ala Resident Evil in Space, and then suddenly they wanted Hunter: The Reckoning. The producer on the project at that point also thought we should do both action and survival horror, and thus we ended up with something that really didn't know what it was. Then, to top it off, the art and levels were scraped and we restarted AGAIN ten months before it finally shipped. So the bottom line is this: Am I proud of the game that shipped? Yes, I'm proud of the product the team made, because in all reality we made it in ten months. Am I proud of the story and dialog? Extremely. Am I sad when I play Doom 3 and realized that THAT was what RLH was supposed to be? Absolutely. So take from this what you will. I'm just happy that some of you liked my baby out there. It was a confused, beaten baby, but my baby none the less. And as for RLH 2, this was originally supposed to be a trilogy. The storyline was created for all three games, but with Interplay going under that will never happen. If anyone wants to know how it ends, I could post here some crucial points. Also, for those who want a prologue to the story, goto Something Wicked (Gaming-Age, 2001) Link: http://www.gaming-age.com/cgi-bin/specials/page2.pl?spec=rlh&pagenum=2&pages=4 Thanks.

Well hell kiddo. I purchased this game a few weeks ago. One of those things I was able to do cuz I finally got off my lazy arse and got a job. Haven't beaten it yet, cuz i'm playing all the shite in my banner currently, instead of focusing on one game at a time (i'm crazy that way), but for what it is, it's a great game. Every game I own/will own is part of a 'never to be resold to a store for credit' collection, and RLH fits in there easily. *filtered out of course, are a myriad of Xbox and PS2 fodder*
I do agree with the higher ups in terms of there being more than one monster. One badass cutter is cool, but given the gameplay style, and what's been done before in the same genre (resident evil, silent hill, etc), there is alway a variety of baddies to go about. From Resident Evil's fodder dogs and tiny spiders, to the badass Lickers, Hunters and Tyrant variants. RLH gave you close to the same thing, Cutter being close to the badass Licker/Hunter, scouts being like them woof woofs gone wild, and of course Brutes like the tyranical force of the...er..tyrants. Top it off with a variety of machine gun and energy based weapons, cool music, and badass Lance Henricksens VO, and you've got gold. To hell with modern day reviewers. These people no longer go by the good book of revewin', but based on what they assume the 'expected age range' wants to hear. Anyway, I would have liked to see an RHL sequel/trilogy. Sucks that it isn't going to happen, but then again, I don't really remember too much good stuff coming from Interplay. I remember heart of darkness back in the day. A very strange game, and a little too hard for the age range it was aimed at, and not mature enough for those that could wipe the floor with its difficulty. Now, you say RLH was completed in just 10 months, and I say, wonder what they could do in 5. Regardless of whether you are who you say you is or ain't, this isn't falling on deaf ears. I'd be more than happy to listen to anything on the series, be it fanfic or truth. Any which way, it's words on RLH, and i'd like to hear more of that. I'm sitting back, and just grabbed my bawls. ------------------- ![]()

Played this game a few months ago and loved it! Great music, voiceovers, storyline etc. Its interesting that you originally penned it to be a Resident Evil in Space survival horror, because Im a huge fan of the RE Series (well most of the installments anyway).
I think RLH was the perfect blend between survival horror and straight shoot em up, combining the best elements of both. You should be really proud of what was achieved, even if it wasnt what u originally wanted. Wish there was a 2nd and 3rd but ill settle for knowing what was going to happen! Plz let us know! Australia LOVES this game!

Hi, I live in Brazil and I really LOVED RLH for the Xbox. Of course there was one thing that really bothered me that was the part where we control the robot, but I truly enjoyed the game as a whole, specially the story.
It sure would be great to have access to the rest of the story, because if no sequel is ever going to reach the public, at least knowing wwhat happens next is sure to please the fans. Well, if RLH 2 and 3 were released someday, I sure would buy them...

Well, it probably isn´t a viable ($$$ speaking) solution, but wouldn´t be cool if the story of the next episodes (text with an art picture here and there) would be downloadable via Xbox Live?
I mean: as the game accepts content download, it´s technically possible...:-)
