Wolfenstein (Xbox 360) review

Ouch, kind of a high score. The series has revolved around excellent online mechanics for the past decade to give it such popularity and longevity and now they completely drop the ball. The reason the franchise is popular is because Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Enemy Territory were really well rounded.

Been playing through the first sections of the game, it's good (it's a new take on what id Tech 4 engine powered games can do) but it's not worth full price by any means. Hopefully Activision catches onto this since for the console versions they'll be hard pressed to fix the online mechanics to that extent.

One has to wonder the fate of the series anyway with id going to Bethesda and Raven being a relatively in-house team for Activision.

I think the score was more or less accurate, multiplayer notwithstanding. My beef isn't with the campaign, no, it sticks with multiplayer. Return to Castle Wolfenstein had such a wonderfully addictive online experience that I still find myself wanting to install it again if not for the empty servers or countless mods that take hours to download. I can't put it to words but there was something about it that drew me back in time and time again.

I guess there are a lot of damning features in multiplayer in Wolfenstein that all play together to make it a chore to play. If they didn't render your character in real-time so you'd have some freedom of motion, rather than doing a one-two shuffle every time there's a lag hiccup, it'd make for a marginally more playable experience. I've only done a few rounds of Deathmatch thus far so I can't really be one to judge.

Since I am not a big online-FPS player, and pretty much only enjoyed Halo II fr its online, I am going to ignore all the issues raise about this game. I ordered it, and am now playing through the original Return To Castle Wolfenstein game from 6 years ago since this one is a direct sequel.

noob!!!! Original was Wolfenstein 3D in around 1991 or 1992

I just got the game. I've only played a few FPS games, COD4 CODWAW, Halo series...but im not really picky about games. I love the game i must say. Id give Wolfenstein an 8 too.

Just completed this game and i absolutely loved it. Everything i wanted this game to be it was. Lovely and violent, and extremely playable. Gonna go through it again to find all the gold i missed. My one and only complaint is why wasn't there a pistol in this game or even a shotgun, oh well just a small gripe. 9/10 One hell of alot of fun.

The pistol thing bugged me, too, but then you go into multiplayer and you can get a pistol in there.

I decided to wait to start playing this because I had the original XBox version of the game from 2002 laying around unopened. So I am just finishing up that story, since this new one I bought a few weeks ago, continues from there. Can't wait to start it this weekend.
