Possibly get to Tall Trees/Blackwater Early?

So the annoying thing about this game is that you cant get up into the right top corner of the map until the end of the game. This puts a damper on the hunting challenges where you need Bears, Beavers, Elk, Bighorn, etc...

Now, you cant set a waypoint on the map because you dont have it unlocked. It just pops and disappears immediately.


However, in Hennigan's stead, just slightly above and to the right of the boar illustration on the map, there is a set line of rocks/mountain where when you go into the curve, TALL TREES appears at the top of your screen.

When you stand in this area, you can set a waypoint all the way up to the top of the map, because the game thinks youve unlocked the area, because youre standing in a small part of it.

The problem is that I cant find a spot to camp that is flat so I can travel to the waypoint. If you get too far from that spot, your waypoint immediately disappears.

There has to be some way around this. It would be really cool to be able to get up there way before youre supposed to. Anyone want to try and help me find a spot that will activate the campsite without the waypoint disappearing first?

This is probably a stupid suggestion, but there's a spot on the river between Hennigan's Stead and Tall Trees that's shallow enough to ride your horse over. I've only used it after unlocking West Elizibeth so I don't know what the state of it is before hand. It might not be there, or it might be blocked off. I don't know, but it's worth a look.

Hmm..... I've had no luck getting into the area early ..... I at one point glitched over the map while trying to get into the area ....

I just gave the *bleep* up and continued to the Mexico missions :/.....

Anyone else think its funny West Elizabeth is the farthest east place on the map?

Try this guys. I haven't attempyed it in that area but its allowed me to setup camp right next to a city and as I had just walked off the edge of a cliff. Run on your horse and gain a little speed then jump off, the instant Johns feet hit the ground hit the inventory button ( select on PS3's) and click campsite. I've been able to set up camp anywhere using this method

Not sure it really matters to make the glitch work but I've been using the Improved Campsite, not the standard one.

Im gonna try this out in a bit. Is there anywhere that will warp you to a jail in Mexico? I bet not because it isnt the Mexican Army that come after you.

At least I can get my hunting challenges done this way.

I really wanted the Legend of the West outfit early, but I gotta go through Mexico a lot to get that done.

Ok, this is pretty sweet.

As mentioned, get a small bounty at Mcfarlanes ranch, a hundred or so should do it. Evade the lawmen and head north to the rock formation just above the boar picture on the map. Go to the curve in the rocks that goes furthest up the map, and the top of the screen will read TALL TREES.


Wait for a posse/marshalls to show up and surrender, where you will be jailed in Blackwater as said.


Now what you do, if you dont have a lot of money, go out and skin animals or whatever until you get about 1700 bucks. In the gunsmith's shop, you will have access to the Mauser Pistol, the Evans Repeater, and the Carcano Sniper Rifle.

3 of the best weapons, available to you as soon as you begin the game.

You can also travel out into the Tall Trees area and break the American Standardbred Black Stallion.

Go to the general store in Blackwater, and also the store at Manzanita Post and buy the area maps.


Now, you've unlocked the areas here, but camp fast travel is still a no-go. It just warps you right to where you were standing if you try to go back over the border.

However.....

The coaches work! Yes! You can take the stage from Blackwater to Thieves Landing and cross back over the map without having to die in order to do it.

You can then travel back to any place where a stage would take you when you travel from Armadillo, Mcfarlane's ranch, etc...so you can return there whenever you like.


Now when travelling using the stage from the main game area to Blackwater, it is SUPER UNSTABLE. Likely, the stage will flip as soon as it starts to move and you will fall into the map and the whole area will re-load around you.

What you need to do, is as soon as you initiate travel, rapidly tap the skip to destination button as fast as you can. The stage will still likely flip and all the horses die and disappear, but the load screen will pop up and you will arrive in Blackwater or wherever, but only you, and the actual coach part will have survived the trip. No driver, no horses. Lol.


It bites that Mexico cant be accessed as yet, but at least this makes it possible that once Mexico becomes open in the main story, you could easily finish all challenges and get the legend of the west outfit unlocked, before ever doing a single Mexico mission.

Not to mention starting out with a badass horse and some of the best weaponry available in the game.

You have to holster your weapon.
