general Gunnm / Anime vs. Manga

Manga has an advantage over anime. It is cheaper to produce and easier to continue. Ranma 1/2, Mermaid Scar, 3X3 Eyes, and Area 88, are just a few titles where the manga goes on forever, but the anime doesn't. (Well ok, Ranma 1/2 certainly seems to go on forever in the anime as well)

3X3 Eyes and Area 88 are two that I really wish would continue in anime.

I prefer anime, mainly because it is easier to obtain.

As for manga being better than anime...hmmm...if memory serves, Record of Lodoss War OVA is not as closely based on the manga as the RoLW TV series, but of the two I definitely preferred the OVAs.

gundam's like this to an extent, the manga adaptations are usually just chopped down versions of the anime(the novels are the best tellings of the anime!), but there is TONS of story that is only told in manga. Blue Destiny, Sentinel and Saila's O(shut up Am, it's not like that) come to mind.

Another great example is Sailor Moon, it's manga is far more mature than the anime. I'm no fan of the show, but the manga is decent enough.

Moving back to Anime, this is Gunnm, not Gundam Biiiiiiiiiiiiiig difference

I found about Battle Angel Alita about eight years ago via a random picture online and could never forget about it. After doing research a few years later, I found its name and how long the story was, as well as its sequel Last order. I recently (finally!) picked up the first manga via a flea market, though the woman wanted to sell the first four as a set for thirty bucks, and only got the first book due to needing to buy some of the other manga she had on stock (Angel Sanctuary, Slayers Super Explosive Demon Story, Angelic Layer, and Inuyasha to name a few). The art is magnificent, the story is compelling, and the little details in the background, the random character that sets up for Alita's grand reveal to be more wonderful than it would of been in this day of age. I'm happy to own the first book, and I truly hope to one day own the entire series.

Now, if only the VHS tape I bought a few months back would have better artwork for its box....

I haven't seen the anime yet, and I plan to watch it on a free day when one shows itself to me. I just hope that it sticks quite well to the manga with some changes, rather than what the VHS tape did by taking out bits and pieces of the manga and made it into two OVA episodes that didn't really make sense to me at the time.
