I agree, as the kanji on both looks almost the same. Doesn't seem like yuri, though, based on the description of the storyline. The image reminds me of many such "promotional" pics I've seen featuring yuri-like themes between characters when they really don't exist in the anime (Ikki Tousen & DearS are two good examples).

re: Spicy and Fresh - Anime Q & A Continues!

The "Shuffle!" image might be created by a fan, depicted a lesbian relationship between two of the characters. Or it could be a promotional thing... <_<

I think something needs to be clarified.

(Taken from the ANN Encyclopedia since my original explanation didn't make sense)

quote Anime News Network Lexicon Encyclopedia
1) Yuri (literally: "lily") is the term used to describe manga or anime with strong, graphically portrayed homo-erotic themes involving women. In otherwords, yuri is pornographic manga/anime featuring women with women. Unlike yaoi, yuri does tend to have more than the minimal necessary story.

2) Literally "Girl - Love", Shoujo-ai refers to stories that feature romantic ties between female characters. Not to be confused with Yuri, which refers to lesbian pornography. The differences are that Shoujo-ai focuses on the relationship and often does not contain any explicit material (the romantic relations may even exclude sex).

3) Yaoi is is the term used to describe manga or anime with strong, graphically portrayed homo-erotic themes involving men. In otherwords, yaoi is pornographic Anime featuring men with men. Unlike North American gay-porn, the target audience for yaoi is female. The word yaoi is actually an acronym of "Yama nashi, Ochi nashi, Imi nashi" (No climax, no point, no meaning), this is because yaoi, much like other forms of pornography, and unlike shounen-ai, often focuses exclusively on the sex, with only the minimal necessary story.

4)The Japanese words "shounen" and "ai" individually mean "boy" and "love," which is exactly what shounen-ai means, boy-love. It refers to anime and manga that focus on love and romance (as opposed to sex) between boys or men (typically bishounen).

Some shounen-ai is pornographic but much of it is not. Examples of shounen-ai include Gravitation, Seimaden, Earthian, and Mirage of Blaze.

Of late, it has become increasingly popular in North America for shounen-ai titles to be labelled "yaoi," both by fans and distributors.
I believe that Steel Angel Kurumi falls under the shoujo-ai category, not yuri. While I can't think of any yuri anime off-hand, there are at least a few series containing shoujo-ai themes I can think of: Maria-sama ga Miteru, Sailor Moon, and .hack//SIGN.

Well I meant Shoujo Ai mainly then. Thanks for the definitions.

It would be helpful to know what you enjoy in anime. What one person thinks is a fantastic film, someone else may think its the worst thing ever. Each person has their own preferences in what they enjoy.

I can't see your image. All that comes up is the Angel Fire logo.

Since you didn't really give any specifics I'll list films that I've enjoyed and don't require any previous knowledge of a series to enjoy.

Ghibli Films have a very wide appeal; most anime fans enjoy them:

Princess Mononoke*
Spirited Away*
Laputa: Castle in the Sky*
Kiki's Delivery Service
Porco Rosso
My Neighbor Totoro
The Cat Returns
Grave of the Fireflies*

Voices of a Distant Star*
The Place Promised in Our Early Days*
Kakurenbo: Hide and Seek*
The Vision of Escaflowne*
Vampire Hunter D
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Akira*
Blood: The Last Vampire*

*=Highest Reccomendations

Happy Birthday.

It likely is from a Dead Or Alive-themed doujinshi published only in Japan. Kasumi is a character from the games. To get such stuff in America you'd have to import it somehow.
(The reason you couldn't see the image by clicking on it is because Angelfire does not support hotlinking. You have to copy the URL then paste it into the location bar and view it that way)

re: Spicy and Fresh - Anime Q & A Continues!

For the person requesting some series that he should see...

Neon Genisis Evangelion (also see End of Evangelion)
Trust and Betrayal: Samurai X OVA
Akira
Paranoia Agent
Gankutsuou
FLCL
Gungrave

That's what I'd reccomend. *Note none of these are really Shonen style animes (such as Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist) But are all very good in my opinion.

Simply asking:
are these titles actually anime... or are they just oriental-based?

Avatar: The Last Airbender
Ninja Turtles (Don't watch it, just curious.)
Samurai Jack

re: Spicy and Fresh - Anime Q & A Continues!

Ninja Turtles started as a live action movie, followed by several sequels. There was then an American made animated series that ran for several seasons. It is considered animation, not anime.

Samurai Jack is anime, drawn in the 'minimalist' style.

Not to act like I know nothing... but what is "minimalist"? Is it a type of drawing style? If so, what type of technique makes it different? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions.

re: Spicy and Fresh - Anime Q & A Continues!

You know, anything animated technically is an anime. Anime is simply the Japanese word for Animation, but these days anime is referred to any cartoon that was made by a Japanese person, which is kinda being discriminative of other artists that make cartoons. For example, the creator of The Boondocks, which looks like someone Japanese made, is actually drawn by an African American.
