Is it this or this Dragon Quest? ANN also list a few other titles with the Dragon Quest name, but from the looks of it they haven't been released in English, or aren't easy to come by.

Oh yes yes yes this one TQ

re: Spicy and Fresh - Anime Q & A Continues!

You could also try the websites of the major bookstore chains (Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc.) or visit your local comic book store, if you have one. Other than that your best bet might be a site like Anime News Network.
Unfotunately given that it's a Viz title their site is your best bet, as horrible as that site is (I know from experience).

re: Spicy and Fresh - Anime Q & A Continues!

I have a question, that I think would be appropriate for this thread. I didn't want to start a whole new thread.

I have a friend who was a foriegn exchange student in Japan. He learned the basics of Japanese during his stay there. He told me that the "Japanese" used in anime and most Japanese video games, is not actually formal Japanese but a type of slang form that incorporates archaic Japanese teminology, as well as newer slang terminology so certain words and phrases are actually different, if you were to go to Japan and try to use them. He basically said that since he only had a basic understanding of Japanese, he would be hard pressed to give me examples of how the two forms differed from one another.

He likened it to someone from Japan just learning English not knowing the various forms of English and certain American patterns of speech. An example being the statement, "I was chillin' with my homies and sippin' a forty, when a couple of bangin' shorties pulled up in a pimped ride," probably would be indecipherable to a Japanese exchange student. Yet anyone familiar with urban slang would know that the person saying this meant that he met up with some friends to drink a forty ounce beer or malt liquor then encountered some attractive young ladies driving a really nice, highly modified and accessorized vehicle.

So my question is: Could someone elaborate how different true Japanese is from "anim-ese" by citing some examples of this? Like phrases or words that are actually different in modern-day Japan.

I have a quick question. Does anyone know the title of this song? I'm aware of the band, but I have absolutely no idea which song that is. I've tried looking but it was really difficult. Any help would be greatly appreciated! By the way, I wouldn't recommend you clicking the link if you're opposed to shounen-ai.

Yeah, since D is a Japanese indie band, it is kind of hard to find their music, but I believe the song goes by the name "Angelic Blue".

<-- Not a fan of shounen-ai of course.

It's already airing. The first 5 episodes of season 2 have aired so far. The sixth airs June 3rd.

Yeah, I know that. What I requested was which day of the week. If it airs on third of June, I guess it airs on Friday.

re: Spicy and Fresh - Anime Q & A Continues!

I got a question,

Have any of you seen the anime: GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka)?

if so and have finished the series. Do you know if it continues from where it left off? as the ending sure did look like it would continue the series further down the road.

Thanks in advance.

re: Spicy and Fresh - Anime Q & A Continues!

Why is it that in Japanese magazines they have some english words? Unless everyone speaks English isn't it a little strange to put in?

I was just wondering.

re: Spicy and Fresh - Anime Q & A Continues!

Throughout their rather brief history of interacting with other cultures, the Japanese people have seldom tried to create Japanese equivalents to foreign words. If the Japanese language does not have a word or short phrase that can satisfactorily equate to the foreign term, rather than creating a new Japanese word, the Japanese simply use the foreign word. This seems to be a result of the Japanese cultural norm of showing respect for those items, including langauge, which belong to others.

This is most often seen with English terms, but you will also occasionally see French, German, Spanish and other languages represented in Japanese literature and entertainment media.
