Well, that's to be expected anywhere you go for whatever subject you're searching for. You can't really hope to look for Saiyuki material and NOT find tons of people who are seemingly overtly excited over it, that's just unrealistic.

Plus, it wasn't the initial EVA discussion that was off-topic in my opinion, it was the fact that you were following it up with something that WAS off-topic and unrelated to Saiyuki.

Also, I agree with the fact that Goku is by no means underrated, because beyond Sanzo, he's actually technically the most important character in the series.

Because Son Goku rocks, that's why.

I've only read up to volume 3 thus far.

I've seen and own the whole series the thing is...I agree, Goku is not exactly important yet.. but I think that in the second season, he'll come to have a bigger role, after all, I think that in order to kill GyohMaoh or seal him away again one would need the power of Nataku, the war prince who is currently still in a comatose state. Now the thing is Goku's memories of being in the Tenkai was wiped away when he was imprisoned so that might pose a problem. But it is inevitable that Goku and Nataku will have a reunion for the better or worse. That is what I think.
As for if the Sanzo Ikkou, if they were going to be reborn in this time period, well let's see....
Goku= A short Highschool senior (( well... he IS 18)) who gets bad grades, spends most of his time skateboarding and whatnot and has a job at the local Hot Topic or 5 Below.

Gojyo= Playboy, enough said.

Hakkai= Either a teacher like when he was still Cho Gonou, or a Librarian or something to do with books. Never a Politician.

Sanzo= Hmm.... this is hard.... a mercenary perhaps? or maybe he could be a traveling priest like Wolfwood of Trigun? I don't know this one is quite hard.... >< EDIT: I ment he has a really big role. ARGH Stupid me....

I think the same topic came up earlier in the Saiyuki thread series, and I'm pretty sure the results were similar to your speculations.

We figured Goku would be working at a fast food restaurant part time, then spending the rest of his time either slacking or skateboarding.

Indeed, Gojyo would be a swinger of the highest caliber, frequenting any bar in his immediate vicinity and "cruising for chicks".

We too, came to the conclusion that Hakkai would be a college professor or something along those lines, spending most of his time in the library and such.

I must admit, Sanzo had us stumped as well. He probably wouldn't willingly choose a priestly or monkly occupation this time around, seeing as how the last time he was kind of thrown into it at an early age. Nor would he choose any kind of job that dealt with either helping people and/or assuming leadership, because most of the time he'd rather not bother with people if he can avoid it.

Who knows? He's a lot like me in some respects, so maybe he'd take up a job in tattooing, where you can get paid for inflicting pain on willing customers. LOL...

You know, that doesn't sound like Sanzo at all to me. I mean, he has his "sanzo-hood" thrust apon him, but he still takes it seriously, and doesn't "quit" or "get fired" no matter how much he doesn't want to do the task at hand.

Seems to me that Sanzo is too serious to be a slacker anyway.

Well, I don't know what a Wildcatter is, but I LOVE the James Bond-ish idea. That makes alot of sense to me! ^^

Especially since Bond does things he is told to do, but always in the way he wants to do them!

Ah, I see! Well then, I would be inclined to agree with you there too then. Time away from humanity seems right up Sanzo's alley.

Although I fancy, he might get bored not having something to fret about.
