His mission was for Knives, who wanted to make Vash go against what he thought and admit that killing people is necessary like what he thought. In a way, legato one because he made vash betray himself.

Hmm... I thought Legato wanted to die so he didn't have to work for Knives... Oh well, I don't know.

Yeah, he is kinda pathetic. My only question is, how on Earth could Knives even beat Legato if they fought. I mean, couldn't Legato just make Knives shoot himself or something?

Simple, Legato believed the same things that Knives believed. That all humans should die. Knives conditioned him to hate humans the way he does. Legato never used his powers on Kives because he never wanted to.

To give Vash Pain, for the encounter with Knives, I guess.

I liked Vash better with his hair down and unshaven, but I find it normal for him to be in his red cloak. It wouldn't be the same to see him fight the other way.

This is my first time through seeing it, so I await to see how the outcome is tonight... [I bet it matters that I haven't seen 1,2, or 11-18 though ]

Having Legato control Vash isn't the same as having Vash act on his own. If Vash is being controlled and something bad happens as a result, Vash might be blamed, but he's always got the satisfaction of knowing that it wasn't 100% his fault that the bad thing happened. If Vash isn't being controlled and the same thing happens, then Vash can be 100% sure that it was his fault that that thing happened. In this case, If Legato had had Vash kill someone, Vash couldn't really be in moral trouble for their death, Legato would. But by putting Vash in a position that if he didn't kill Legato, Meryl and Millie, two of Vash's best friends, would have died, Vash had no choice but to kill Legato. His one death meant, well, countless more people would live. The thought of killing someone and disobeying a direct rule that Rem told him is something Vash tries his hardest not to do. Now, Vash has to live with the fact that he, by choice, took someone else's life... that's alot worse than if one of us did it because Vash has lived for over 100 years and we've no idea how much longer he's going to live.
