But the point of that scene was to introduce and put Ghost Yomi into the focus, Otonogi was a background character in that scene.

See, Tiger go Meow, all I have to say to that is "I disagree" and done. It didn't ruin any chuckles for me. It actually added more. I thought it was a gamble, because there were definitely times where it was boring. I felt like instead of explaining, they were adding to the joke.

The fact doesn't remain at all if I disagree. Here's how I saw it: the revert showed us two mostly different stories. One which focuses our attention entirely on Okonogi's perspective as a completely inept person innocently missing the supernatural events right in front of her. The second then shifts focus entirely on Yuuko, and gives completely fresh perspective with a whole different characterization and way of enjoying the jokes.

This isn't a de facto terrible storytelling method either-- it depends entirely on execution. Have you ever read Ender's Game? It's one of my favorite books ever. And it's counterpart, Ender's Shadow, is exactly the same book written from the perspective of another character. This is effectively what was done here. It was done with arguable results, but to some this will be successful and others (like you) it won't be. I for one found it was a viable choice that could maybe have been tweaked, but otherwise got me laughing. I can see completely how not liking Okonogi could ruin it though.

I didn't mind it at all. Actually I found it even more enjoyable the second time. Yuuko is just win.

A single scene does not an anime make.

Anime shouldn't have singular selling points, or the appeal shouldn't just be “this character is cute.” The story, characters, and other such things should be put into the mix to create a good anime.

This first episode was a 'shot in the foot' use of the “flashback” tool. The original scene already had a strong fixing of context clues to tell you what was up, and the flashback only really served to fill in the gap by animating ghost-girl into the scene. Putting her in, they filled in the “x” to the equation and killed the fun of finding the solution. Not only that, they went back and explained what had gone on in that scene by adding her in—the fun of figuring out on your own was stolen away, and the core of the scene's humor explained.

Not to mention they showed you the same exact thought patterns of the “normal” member of their group twice, further making her look stupid and further reminding the viewer that she is an airhead. That works against the character when trying to get people to like her.

I really didn't mind her the first time around, but that reminder really just killed it for me. I didn't need to be reassured that the blonde was a blonde.

Jesus it's like Shinbo got really high and threw an entire bucket full of SHAFT out the window and it landed on someone who used it for this.
