I'm having the hardest time finding the rune tower on Neqiam! They're all thin continents!!!! I've only managed to find one so far and that was a fluke

And, did you ever find it? I'm asking because I can't find the darn thing either!

The rune tower on Nequam is found by flying straight at the planet right after getting out of warp (fly quickly using X and ignore the stupid enemies as much as you can without running into them) aim up a little to keep the mountains in sight (toward the planet's north pole) to hit the big mountains. You'll end up near the outskirts of the mountains if you do it right The land mass looks something like a person with the head in the east and the feet in the west and a hand attached to the larger mountains which have our rune. Keep flying north and a little east it's on top of a semi flat mountain.

Note: You can't find this thing easily by sitting in the atmosphere and looking down unless you fly really far north.

Stupid question perhaps, but still: how do I know in which direction north is?

The planet spins around the north/south axis. If you watch for a moment from space you can see it slowly moving. Based on that you should be able to determine the axis. If you just came out of hyperspace and haven't lost your orientation you can count on up being to the north.
