Do you guys use the Riot Shield? When I play online, I noticed lots of people don't even touch the useful tool. I'm sure you guys know some of this already, but here are some helpful facts about the Riot Shield:

1.You can withstand Helicopters and Harrier barrages.
Yes, if you aim yourself right, you can take a full blast from the killstreaks that fire bullets at you and typically wipe you in 1 hit. Its awesome sitting down in the middle of an area taking the full blunt from a heli barrage with your teammates launching rockets at it.

2.You can provide mobile cover.
Do you have a buddy who is always getting killed as he leaves his safe spot behind a dumpster? ASSIST HIM! Organize yourselves so you are moving slowly in front of your buddy, and so your buddy can follow you and crouch behind your impenetrable shield. He'll be thanking you as the VICTORY screen shows up!

3.Protect your Sniper!
Do you have a buddy who is sniping?.>What's that, someone spotted him! They're gonna kill him! Well luckily you were there to stop that bullet that could have stopped your buddy's powerful killstreak from activating! Stay by a sniper if they'll allow you, and throw yourself in front of bullets!

4.Not a Knife, but twice as effective!
Your melee while holding the shield is a shield bash, but you need to land it on someone twice to kill them. BUT did you know the first bash lowers an opponent to at least half-health? If you have a wingman with you, tell them to fire a burst and kill the enemy, saving yourself from death!

5.Overlap to increase effectiveness!
You remember the controversial airport level in campaign? The russian cops built a wall out of their shields! Try this coordinated tactic in multiplayer, but maybe switch it up a bit, making a circular formation, or a triangle, or a box, protect your helpless team with fellow shield wielders!


So these are my helpful tips to using the Riot Shield, hopefully you guys will try to use it from time to time, it can save lives! I usually get maybe 2-3 kills per match, but between 15-32 assists for helping out with my shield!

Throwing knife...Scavenger...Scrambler...stun grenades...and Stinger missile with the Shield makes an excellent team support class.

Shoot down all UAV's and air support vehicles. Scramble radars when you're around.

Throwing knife provides Quicker kill when close up when shield bashing would leave you open to kill.

Stun grenades help you to position yourself better with shield..or make enemies vulnerable to your teammates.

Scavenger keeps the knife, missiles, and stun grenades all fed.

It might be good for that purpose, but it won't net you much exp and your K/D ratio will be shit if you use that class a lot. Also, my teammates NEVER follow me when I have the riot shield equipped, and I usually will get shot from the side by someone I didn't see while spending 30 seconds chasing someone and trying to smash them twice. Riot shield is not very effective, imo.

You're doing it wrong, lol.


You follow teammates, not them follow you. You see your teammates running down a hallway? Run ahead of them. If they are all "GTFO of the way!" Then ignore them. You just saved them from getting sniped.

a well placed explosive will ruin all of this protective work though. throw a grenade so it rolls under your feet and explodes behind you, can wipe out an entire formation. if you did have a formation going then communication would be absolutely essential.

personally if i were to see a wall of people with riot shields and shooters in the back, id practically shit myself, throw a panic grenade and then run off into a building somewhere

True, a well placed grenade would ruin a Turtle Formation(hehe, make this the official term guize so we hear it online), but your right, communication is key. Plus, I've survived many grenades that slip by me. I backpedal to the grenade as soon as I see the icon and I throw it back and hope it doesn't explode before I throw it.

I have never seen a person using the riot shield well at all. Most of the time they just slowly walk towards me holding this shield, i shoot and obviously it doesnt work, so i just sprint a little to the side of them and swing my knife around the shield It's so easy.

I can't imagine them being effective at all to shield more than just yourself. I think it could be so easy to kill the other person, and even everyone with a simple throw of a grenade.

I stood infront of a Harrier, and it shot at me for like 5 seconds. It was awesome.

I also use the AT4 with the Riot Shield. Blast mask works well too, because, everyone throws grenades.

I don't use them, not really my thing. Having said that, I do respect anyone that does take it and I've had a few encounters with shielders which has left me dead.

I played with an entire clan titled "RIOT". Every single member of the clan was sporting a riot shield. Our team ended up winning, only after an epic fight when they made a wall to block us from moving. All in all, it might have been the coolest match I've ever played.

There is one scenario which frustrates the hell out of me.

It is map specific, but could probably go with a few other maps. A teammate with his shield out is crouching in the airplane in Terminal. I try to go around him to get a shot and the f-er blocks my damn way, letting my quarry run get away.


note: I still try to chase him and end up running into fire, like an idiot.
